Job Objective:
The Construction Skilled Trades Instructor will provide hard/essential skills instruction to participants who are enrolled in the construction skilled trades training program at Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Inc. This program will include many of the new specialized training opportunities and curriculum that are developed and are being developed to provide participants with many of the sought-after skills identified to us by labor providers in the local workforce. While the Construction Skilled Trades Instructor need not be adept in all areas of training, responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing administrative support in the form of developing curriculum, ensuring the construction program has required tools and equipment, teaching all of the classes, record keeping, and recruitment of participants. Instructional focus includes communication skills and introduction to construction drawings, OSHA safety regulations, construction math, understanding of measurement tools, operation of hand/power tools, basic rigging, material handling, and essential skills pertinent to the construction field. This position requires working with other Managers, Supervisors and Case Managers from various departments within Goodwill, as well as external partners. This position reports to the Career and Technical Education Manager who evaluates performance annually.
Essential Job Functions:
- Knows and understands the Goodwill Mission: Strengthen communities by empowering individuals and families through education, training and job placement.
- Acquire and maintain a thorough knowledge of the classes that are being provided.
- Create curriculum for hard/essential skills that are in demand in the communities that we serve.
- Ensure curriculum is consistently updated as credential requirements change.
- Work cooperatively with program supervisors to organize classes and determine daily training priorities.
- Teach hard/essential skills trainings as assigned.
- Teach students employer expectations of a work environment.
- Create referral pipelines for classes being offered.
- Work with area employers to hire students who complete classes.
- Serve as an advocate for people with economic disadvantages and disabilities.
- Work closely with the Case Managers to identify client problems and issues that need to be addressed.
- Prepare Goodwill reports and paperwork that pertains to students participation in the training program.
- Maintain student and program files to meet accreditation requirements of credential sources.
- Provide necessary documentation to communicate students job readiness status.
- Participate in inter- and intra-departmental meetings, as scheduled.
- Performs other related duties and assignments as required.

- Must have reliable transportation, a current driver's license, and provide proof of insurance to travel to different job sites.
Education and Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of work experience in construction or as a licensed teacher.
- Experience developing curriculum and teaching individuals.
Physical Requirements:
- Travel to build sites, Goodwill satellite offices, funding streams offices, or client meetings in public facilities.
- Ability to work in a light industrial area with significant dust.
- Ability to work in an office/classroom environment (as applies).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to participate in work-based learning instruction.
- Ability to transport participants to build sites.
