Job Summary:
The Technology Processing Technician II is responsible for processing, testing, and refurbishing electronic devices donated to Goodwill for resale or recycling. This includes ensuring the security and proper handling of sensitive data, refurbishing equipment to sellable condition, and safely dismantling non-functional items for recycling. The role requires strict adherence to environmental and safety regulations and contributes to Goodwill’s commitment to sustainability by maximizing the re-use of electronic goods.
- Data Security
- Ensure the secure handling of donated items containing sensitive data.
- Perform PII removal on all technology items before resale.
- Refurbishment & Testing
- Test, troubleshoot, and refurbish electronic devices including computers, laptops, monitors, TVs, game consoles, and other electronics.
- Install operating systems (Windows, OSX) and essential software to ensure user-friendly experiences.
- Replace missing or damaged components such as RAM, hard drives, and screens.
- Create or clone hard drive images for fast deployment across multiple devices.
- Demanufacturing & Recycling
- Disassemble and sort electronics that are not salvageable for resale into components for recycling.
- Operate equipment such as pallet jacks, tippers, and powered wrappers to handle large volumes of material safely.
- Identify and harvest valuable components from non-working devices.
- Maintain stock levels for recycling and refurbishing materials and prepare items for sale or shipment.
- Market Evaluation
- Research the current market value of refurbished electronics using online platforms like eBay to price items accurately.
- Ensure that all refurbished products meet quality standards before resale.
- Inventory & Documentation
- Label devices with appropriate specifications and conditions for resale or recycling.
- Online Listing & Customer Service
- Perform tasks within listing software to list items for sale through online channels.
- Support customers who have questions about online listings.
- Research the current market value of refurbished electronics using online platforms like eBay to price items accurately.
- Ensure that all refurbished products meet quality standards before resale.
- Promote and uphold Goodwill's mission and values in all interactions with staff, customers, and stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures, fostering a culture of safety within the team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Windows and OSX operating systems.
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot electronic components and systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to stand, sit, and lift for extended periods.
- Ability to pass criminal background check.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
