SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Career Coach assists people with disabilities or other barriers to employment, by providing services, resources, and training to utilize in their journey towards employment and professional development opportunities. The incumbent is responsible for developing individualized plans for participants that outline strategies to achieve their goals. The Career Coach is expected to be courteous and professional while upholding the core Goodwill values of Empowerment, Public Trust, Respect, Innovation, Quality, and Safety.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Career Coaching
Manage the full participant cycle, including assessing, planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating services and programs that provide career growth. Follow the Opportunity Accelerator framework and specific career pathways.
Provide career coaching through the development of individual employment plans, enrollment in training or education programs, referrals to jobs, job placement or advancement, and retention services. Provide support and advice on interview preparation.
Develop positive, empowering relationships with all participants. Develop and implement effective coaching strategies to help participants overcome challenges and barriers to employment and workplace success. Create an environment that enables all individuals to contribute to their fullest potential.
Evaluate and track participants' progress and promptly document activity through well-written case notes in the electronic case management system (CaseWorthy™ Case Management Software).
Job Readiness
Conduct assessments to gauge participants' skills and abilities and provide feedback on results. Apply principles of classroom management and various teaching styles to increase participants' skill levels and competence. Conduct workshops and facilitate computer skills, soft skills and / or job readiness training in a group or individual setting.
Meet regularly with participants to reinforce the use of skills learned in job readiness activities through ongoing coaching sessions during the education and training phase of program participation, as well as during and after the transition to employment.
Connect with external businesses and organizations to determine their employment needs for possible participant placement. Actively promote Goodwill Industries of South Texas programs to create awareness and demonstrate the potential it has on career and life advancement.
Use knowledge of local community resources and programs and provide referrals that foster continued growth for participants. Maintain working knowledge of educational and training opportunities internally and externally in the community.
Administrative
Contribute to the fulfillment of department and agency objectives and goals. Embrace the agency's core values in the spirit in which the agency operates at work and in the community. Comply with all department and agency policies, procedures, and regulations. Adhere to and enforce safety and loss prevention procedures to prevent injury to personnel and damage to property, equipment, and inventory.

Collaborate with Job Connections Center Management on program activities. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any of the following may be used to qualify :
High school diploma or equivalent and three years related experience
Associate degree or higher and one-year related experience
Bachelor's degree
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Possess a valid Driver License with a clean driving record. Reliable transportation with the ability to travel within the region as required for meeting participants, workshops, and meetings. Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug / alcohol screen.
Able to effectively communicate with individuals with different lifestyles, genders, personal beliefs, and disabilities.
Be highly resourceful, with ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and work effectively with little supervision. Self-motivated and enthusiastic with the ability to learn independently.
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and Saturdays.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual (English and Spanish speaking).
Experience working with human service agencies, education institutions, or workforce development
Knowledge of community resources to include business, government, non-profit.
College coursework or degree in a related field
Experience in working with people with disabilities and disadvantaged conditions.
