SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Public Health & Prevent Specialist II is responsible for working under the guidance of the Program Specialist V and Border Public Health Region 8 manager. Enters data into various sources for processing and management. The Public Health & Prevent Specialist II is expected to be courteous and professional while upholding the Goodwill values of Empowerment, Public Trust, Respect, Innovation, Quality, and Safety.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES
• Create spreadsheets and transfers sensitive or confidential data efficiently.
• Retrieves data from database or electronic files as requested.
• Enters, manages, processes, track and analyze data for disease exposure events, follow-ups and THISIS, an electronic disease surveillance system.
• Carry out quality assurance for: information entered into local and state surveillance systems, cohort review forms, multi-drug resistant patient information sent to Heartland for consult.
• Communicate with local hospitals, private physicians, correctional facilities, and other public health entities to obtain medical information and ensure continuity of care.
• Assist with conducting cohort reviews and updating monthly case summary forms for monthly case reviews.
• Scan and upload documents into patient folders on the share drive; copy and file documentation into patient charts.
• Collect data for use in planning and evaluating the effectiveness of public health education programs. Confers with local health agencies, private physicians, individuals, and community action groups on the treatment, control or prevention of communicable or chronic diseases.
• Submits performance measures and other monthly and quarterly reports accurately and on time as requested by management. Outreach and Education (EJF 2. 30%). Assist in coordinating TB training for community and Public Health Workers who directly support efforts to identify, enroll and maintain Medical eligibility for eligible and potentially-eligible children and adults. Procures and/or assists with development of TB educational materials.
• Identifies medical resources in the U.S. and Mexico and makes referrals for services as needed.
• Assists in distributing information of public health education programs.
• Participates in conducting and planning public health training courses.
• Performs administrative duties.
• Prepares program budget reports, monitors and maintains accountability of project expenditures.
• Orders and keeps organized and adequate inventory of office supplies, educational materials, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively
• Ability to interpret public health laws and regulations, analyze and evaluate public health needs, provide guidance to others, and communicate effectively.
• Public health laws and regulations and medical terminology.
• Ability travel to various locations, including offices, community centers, and other public health settings.
• Bachelor's degree from a accredited college/University preferred.
• Data entry 1 year preferred
PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS
• Ability to use a computer and other office equipment efficiently.
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods, as well as occasionally lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
