What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Food Services position at Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin & Metropolitan Chicago?

The Assistant Director Galley is responsible for all production requirements of daily meals, including procurement of food and supplies necessary for operation. This position is also responsible for the financial accountability of consumable supplies. This position is located at the Naval Station Great Lakes. In this position you will oversee the day to day operations of 5 or more galleys (cafeterias).

RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:

Implements strategy for assigned galleys. Oversees daily operations, directs staff in the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures and programs. Maintains operating budget and manages expenses. Communicates budgetary performance. Typically works on projects and initiatives that span 1-2 years and focuses on the creation of systems.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

1. Leading and Developing Talent: Manages departmental structure, development and training of staff. Actively networks and sources for positions within the team.

2. Project and Change Management: Plans and manages projects and improvement initiatives of moderate to high complexity related to departmental function. Manages change with direct reports (if applicable) and participates in the leadership coalition that supports the change.

3. Community Engagement: Champions and engages with community relations efforts, links outcomes to employee engagement.

4. Ensure the overall management and day-to-day operations follow the applicable contract in force.

5. Responsible for all production requirements of meals daily, including but not limited to procurement of food and supplies necessary for the operation.

6. Responsible for financial accountability of consumable supplies, food and labor costs within the operation.

7. Ensure galley manager, supervisors and staffs meet all requirements including but not limited to Goodwill policies and Goodwill Great Lakes Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and government contract.

8. Run required reports and complete all necessary forms issued by either Goodwill or the Navy.

9. Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Associates Degree or experience equivalency, and a minimum 5 years' experience.

2. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions in the English language.

3. Ability to perform basic math calculations. Average computer knowledge and proficiency in MS Office software required.

4. Ability to accurately perform tasks under stressful conditions. Ability to think and react calmly and responsibly to emergency situations.

5. Must have valid driver’s license, necessary insurance and be able to legally operate a Goodwill vehicle.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS:

Job requires the following: remain stationary for sustained periods of time; ability to move about to accomplish tasks; must be able to operate a computer or similar technology, which typically involves substantial motions of wrist, hands and/or fingers; visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing data, operating equipment or review thoroughness of work; ability to communicate with others and exchange information.
