What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education Navigator position at Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona?
The primary role of the Education Navigator will be to assist with recruiting and enrolling participants to Goodwill Academic Services; track student progress towards HS diploma or GED; facilitate workshops on post-secondary placement and financial aid; and provide supportive services to decrease participant barriers in engaging in an educational program. The Education Navigator will ensure compliance with accepted standards, federal/state requirements, and Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona’s policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona’s Values at all times
- Coordinate and implement academic services throughout Goodwill Youth Reengagement and Adult Reentry programs, including individualized academics plans, weekly tutoring, basic literacy/numeracy gains assistance, education interventions, academic case management, etc.
- Provide positive reinforcement for the participant’s progress, problem solve issues or concerns, and update the participant’s academic plan to reflect progress and goals
- Assist with recruiting youth and adult participants to Goodwill Academic Services
- Maintain current records and data using Edgenuity System and additional systems as necessary
- Communicate routinely with designated personnel in education, behavioral health, social support, and career service agencies.
- Provide weekly lab enrollment and attendance reports to Grad Solutions
- Develop specific presentations regarding Goodwill Academic Services
- Track student progress towards HS diploma or GED, and upon graduation for remainder of program enrollment
- Facilitate post-secondary placement, post-secondary bridge program, and financial aid and Pima Community College workshops
- Assist participants with applying for financial aid assistance
- Monitor and maintain current GED and TABE curriculum and testing procedures current
- Conduct VI-SPDAT assessments / coordinate and implement supportive services such as housing, behavioral health services, wellness services and other basic needs throughout Goodwill programs.
- Provide supportive services, including but not limited to the following:
- Technology – laptop/tablet troubleshooting
- Mobile Internet/Hotspot resources
- Transportation Assistance
- Education Attainment Incentive (e.g., gift cards)
- Basic School Supplies (e.g., notebooks, folders, pencils/pens, backpack, etc)
- Other materials necessary to attend school (e.g., clothing/uniforms, winter coat, boots)
- Connect participants with resources to assist with vocational training, Pima Community College or technical school, and/or employment
- Attend all required meetings as deemed appropriate by Academic and Volunteer Coordinator.
- Coordinate with other Goodwill staff assigned to the participants’ success plan. Ensure participant is meeting the minimum requirements for their respective Goodwill programs
- Produce data reports as needed
- Complete reports and all appropriate paperwork in an accurate and timely manner
- Proactively identify and address potential problems and/or negative behaviors before they impact other participants
- Follow all GISA policies and procedures, including safety, at all times
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding Goodwill and persons receiving services
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's in social work or education, or related field required
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience serving at-risk youth preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Research
- Must have a valid Arizona driver license and auto insurance, reliable transportation, and acceptable driving record
- Must successfully complete within 90 days of employment and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications
- Establish and maintain a fingerprint clearance to provide services to youth
- Work with minimum supervision and maintain effective working relationships with all individuals
- Demonstrated ability to use a data management system, and use data to make decisions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mandatory reporting laws, FERPA, HIPAA, ADA, and other federal and state policy relevant to youth protections/well-being.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize a caseload of youth.
