SUMMARY
Management and supervision of the agency’s loss prevention efforts. Develops and implements programs and procedures that will protect Agency assets at all locations. Consults in the setup of loss prevention technologies throughout the agency. Efforts will be directed toward minimizing loss of Agency property due to inefficient or improper maintenance or usage of agency equipment, while controlling accident and exposure risks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Loss Prevention
- Conduct loss control audits and risks analysis studies as necessary to gauge risk exposure and potential liability, increase management and staff awareness and expertise regarding loss control.
- Work with administrative staff members and department managers to review and evaluate effectiveness of security procedures implemented to protect Agency resources and cash management Agency-wide. This will include, but not be limited to, fundraising events and Agency operations at satellite locations. Make recommendations as appropriate.
- Consults on loss prevention technologies throughout all agency locations.
- Provides supervision to the agency’s loss prevention department.
- Analyze internal and external merchandise flow at all retail operations and insure that established procedures are being followed. Report violations or suspected violations to supervisor and appropriate retail management personnel.
- Coordinate and/or conduct interviews and confidential investigations of suspected fraud, including violation of Agency shopping policies and procedures. Ensure that all steps taken in the course of conducting investigations and when apprehending offenders are done in conformance with applicable state and federal law.
- Coordinate investigations involving Agency staff and subsequent action taken with Human Resources personnel.
- Conduct periodic cash register audits at retail locations. Monitor overages/underages with Vice President, Finance and Vice President, Retail Operations. Conduct investigations of suspected wrongdoing.
- Participate as a member at departmental and team meetings by recommending, developing and assisting with implementation of loss prevention policies and procedures Agency-wide.
- Act as liaison with public law enforcement officials and/or private investigators or consultants assisting with loss control activities and apprehension of individuals engaged in wrongdoing, as authorized by an administrative staff member.
- Regularly visit and inspect all retail operations to evaluate effectiveness of loss control practices including the use of security and surveillance equipment. Make recommendations to appropriate personnel, as necessary.
- Regularly visit retail operations to evaluate integrity of sales personnel, quality of sales techniques, cash management techniques and overall customer service. May require engaging outside consultants as "secret" shoppers or donors or to conduct internal investigations.
- Develop and implement training programs on security and loss prevention as deemed appropriate for presentation to new hires during orientation and to current employees.
- Write report of visits and investigations conducted at each establishment visited including findings, recommendations for change, action taken, etc.
- Attend conferences and seminars, as appropriate or as directed, to keep abreast of all current state and federal regulations with regard to safety and loss prevention programs and ensure compliance.
- Assists, identifies and/or reports potentially unsafe conditions and acts as viewed and recorded via the CCTV system.
- Responsible for physical security of all locations, including the install, maintenance, upkeep on door locks. As well as maintaining list of key holders and issuing/collecting keys as appropriate.
OTHER DUTIES
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information related to security systems and other loss prevention strategies as related to interviews and investigations conducted throughout the organization.
- Employee will be included and responsible for the Alarm Responder Roster for assigned stores and locations. Must respond upon notification from alarm monitoring company, in-person, to alarm calls that occur before/after typical hours of business operations. Employee must follow established procedures for responding to an alarm call and must have access to transportation to travel to/from store at such times. Employee must provide personal telephone and/or cell phone information in order to be available to receive alarm calls and must maintain ongoing phone service. Based on employment classification, employee will be paid in accordance with Agency policy for time spent responding to alarm calls.
- Employee will ensure that all industry standard best practices from a Health & Safety, Maintenance and Facilities perspective are met.
- Employee may assist in the training, development and/or assistance of loss prevention personnel, as directed or requested, especially in cases involving additional investigative presence or consultation.
- Other related duties as directed or assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee will directly supervise the agency’s loss prevention department, and may assist with or direct activities of contracted security services, investigators, and other contracted safety/security professionals.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in computer related field from four-year college or university; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documentation, and governmental and other regulations. Ability to write reports, general business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, outside vendors and consultants.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
SPECIAL SKILLS
General knowledge of security surveillance systems. Knowledge and experience in conducting an investigation and related documentation and follow through, as appropriate, regarding individuals involved in theft of agency property, following all local, state and federal regulations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Requires a high degree of judgment and decision-making. Ability to select appropriate strategies to handle each unique situation and to engage outside consultants as deemed appropriate.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
CT driver’s license in good standing. Use of personal vehicle required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Travel required throughout Goodwill Southern New England locations, as needed or required. May be required to work evening and weekend hours for special projects and/or installation/maintenance of management information systems.
