Description : GENERAL SUMMARY :
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Education Specialist will provide case management and supportive services for the Adolfo Transitional Housing program in order to help participants start, and continue their education goals. This position will work with participants who are seeking vocational training, mentorship, leadership development, and / or educational programs (i.e. GED, tutoring assistance), as well as interfacing with schools and other service providers. This position is committed to improving the quality of services provided by seeking input from participants, employees and stakeholders to ensure service delivery and accessibility is equitable to all persons served. The Education Specialist is a full time, non-exempt position eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance; 403 (b) retirement plan; paid holidays, Vacation and Sick time. This position is employed by Goodwill Industries of Sacramento Valley and Northern Nevada, Inc., through Next Move Homeless Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

- Manage an active caseload; maintain participant records; complete a variety of education related documents, accurately and in a timely and auditable manner.
- Assess participant’s skills, aptitudes, and interests using information from school records, test scores, career interest profiles, and other relevant instruments to help them successfully attain program objectives.
- Interview and evaluate readiness status of clients for enrollment into education programs.
- Coordinate with foster youth education liaisons at the local community colleges and Universities to ensure participants are supported in their education endeavors.
- Monitor progress of participants in program components and facilitate / coordinate access to necessary supportive services, referrals, and community resources.
- Maintain and update detailed, accurate client files and program data (printed and electronic) in compliance with programmatic and funding requirements.
- Assess educational status and interests of participants on an ongoing basis, and work with them on their individualized educational goals focusing on self-sufficiency.
- Support participants with identifying vocational programs and enrolling and pursuing stackable vocational certifications
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization and within respective departments.
- Complete educational and vocational assessments with participants.
- Participate in agency, program, and community meetings as appropriate.
