Qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY
The Career Training and Education Specialist mentors and supports participants in Goodwill San Antonio Workforce Development programming by helping them navigate career pathways, develop goals, and develop and execute a plan for success. Assist participants in navigating foundational skills, education and career training enrollment, job search, job placement, and barrier removal. Position incumbent upholds and models Goodwill's mission, core values, and servant leadership philosophy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Client Service & Support
- Conduct participant intake (including career interest, education, reading, digital literacy, etc.) Assess the participant's skills, abilities, and needs to identify education, training, and employment opportunities that are best fit for the participant.
- Develop participant-led individualized service plan related to education, training, and employment based on participants’ needs, interests, skills, and talents.
- Provide effective resilience-based case management to identify and address barriers to education and employment goal completion, including high touch engagement, social and emotional support, service coordination to address community resources, and financial assistance.
- Provide career readiness, resume, interviewing, job search, and application assistance to participants. Submit specific assistance requests in accordance with agency and program policy.
- Assist participants with enrollment into vetted education and career training programs.
- Provide retention support to participants post placement into education, training, and/or job placement.
- Ensure program fidelity and high-quality service delivery to participants.
Case Management
8. Analyze case management system report(s) to effectively manage caseload and monitor participants’ progress within the program. 9. Utilize case management best practices: timely data entry, accurate case notes, consistent follow-up, and collection of appropriate support documentation as required by the program. Use the case management system to collect participant data and record services provided. 10. Maintain current knowledge of education and career training programming, education financial support (including FAFSA), demand occupations and employment trends.
Community Collaboration & Partnering Skills
11. Collaborate with partner organizations to provide a holistic approach to re-engaging individuals with education, training, and employment opportunities. 12. Support and lead participant-focused events related to education, training, employment, and resources that align with participant needs and program goals. 13. Collaborate with the Community Relations Team to assist with job placement of participants. 14. To accommodate business needs and objectives, other duties may be assigned by leadership.
REQUIREMENTS
Required qualifications and abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in education, workforce development, or a closely related field.
- 1-3 years’ experience in admissions, recruiting, academic/career advising, or another related field
- Skilled in communicating verbally and writing effectively; skilled in organizing and presenting educational material.
- Must maintain flexibility regarding work availability and hours to support program needs.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
6. Master’s degree in education, social work, or other related fields is a plus. 7. Experience in workforce development and community partnerships is preferred.
