Career Service Specialists assist a diverse pool of program participants to provide support and career guidance in their decision-making process, including intensive career counseling, assessments, work experience opportunities, job search assistance conducting workshops and retention services to achieve placement and retention goals . Development of an individual employment plan informed by labor market trends and guides participants related to training/re-training needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Qualifies participants for services and/or participation in programs. Conducts assessments for employment and training needs, creates individualized plans to guide program activities and makes referrals to training services, as appropriate.
Monitors and evaluates participant’s progress; provides guidance and coaching to help participants resolve issues and remain motivated to obtain and maintain employment.
Conducts readiness workshops and provides one‐on‐one coaching to participants and enrolled job seekers.
Maintains detailed case records according to funder and/or company requirements.
Achieves individual placement and retention goals.
Works with local employers to develop and identify appropriate jobs for work experience opportunities, conducts site assessments, while helping participants gain meaningful employment.
Conducts regular labor market and industry needs analysis, stays current on business and hiring trends, assist participants in making appropriate career occupation decisions.
This position requires travel (25% to 50%) within Southern California a valid CA driver's license and state-required auto insurance are necessary. Driving records must be acceptable by Company’s insurance vendor.
Education & Experience
2 years of career counseling experience in a non-profit setting preferred.
2 years of case management experience in a non-profit setting preferred.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience in assessing work experience, educational attainment, transferable skills, aptitudes, abilities, needs, interests, readiness for employment, and barriers that hinder employment, highly desired.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills; possess abilities to work with all levels of employees and diverse populations.
Previous experience with WIOA or DOR regulations, highly desired.
Experience providing case management services to people with disabilities highly desired.
Experience in staffing or human resources helpful.
Strong counseling and coaching skills.
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
Critical thinking, self-motivation and high degree of integrity & ethics essential.
Experience in assessing work experience, educational attainment, transferable skills, aptitudes, abilities, needs, interests, readiness for employment, and barriers that hinder employment.
Bi-lingual fluency (e.g., English/ASL, English/Spanish, etc.) and ability understand another culture as required by the program or local community highly desired.
