Goodwin Competition, Inc. is seeking an experienced, self motivated, mechanically inclined High performance Engine Builder/Machinist/Cylinder Head Specialists interested in building a variety of high performance race engines.
Goodwin Competition builds championship engines for numerous forms of Motorsports. From design through prototyping, testing and manufacturing, we take our visions from the sketch pad to production. Responsibilities to include, but not limited to the following:
*Assemble long and short blocks of racing engine in accordance with build book specifications
* Inspect engine components & parts during the disassembly process and report/record all out of spec conditions & deficient parts/components to department manager, Inspection and analysis of the components and parts of the disassembled engine
*All aspects of a cylinder head work; dis-assemble and reassemble cylinder head, cleaning and deburring head, valve grinding, setting lash, installing guides and seats, honing guides, setting tip heights, installing seals, springs, retainers and locks, documenting completed work.
*Complete the final assembly of the engine in accordance with the production schedule to ensure timely delivery for dynamometer testing
*Assist with engine installation & removal from Dyno
*maintain open and effective communication with others to ensure adherence to production schedules and quality standards
*Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of the engine assembly work area and equipment
Machining Skills:
*Bore & Hone cylinder blocks
*Align hone main bores
*Cylinder head machining, guide & seat work, valve jobs & surfacing
*Recondition connecting rods
*Balance rotating assemblies
*Set up and operate machines to fabricate parts
*Fluent in using Bridgeport style knee mills
Qualifications:
*High School Diploma or equivalent
*HP- High performance degree , AAS HP - Associate in High Performance (Preferred but not required)
*minimum 2 years experience disassembling, inspecting and reassembling prototype and competition engines
*Flexibility & ability to handle several projects simultaneously
*Must have own tools suitable for engine building
*Use precision instruments (micrometer, bore gauge, etc.) to take readings accurate to .0001
*Excellent shop math skills
*Must be able to move/lift 75 lbs.
*Must have good attention to detail as an Engine Builder
*must be able to read, comprehend, and execute written procedures
*Must have good communication skills with others as an Engine Builder
*Must be a self starter, self motivated, and willing to learn
*Be willing and able to work overtime (and weekends if necessary)
*Experience tuning carburetors (fuel injection a bonus)
*Computer skills
