Traffic Engineer Responsibilities
- Design and permitting of traffic signal plans for intersection upgrades, school flashers, mid-block crossings, and more
- Conduct traffic operations and safety studies to identify, evaluate, and recommend improvements for intersections and arterials. This includes various studies such as Qualitative Assessments, Signal Warrant Analysis, Intersection Analysis, Arterial Analysis, Left-Turn Phase Warrant Analysis, Composite Studies, Fatal Crash Reviews, Speed Zone Studies, and Technical Memos
- Perform data collection and analysis for corridor traffic counts, including turning movement counts (TMC), average daily traffic (ADT), heavy vehicle counts, and queue length studies
- Conduct crash analysis and safety evaluations for corridors, arterials, and study intersections, including Arterial and Intersection Safety Analyses
- Support project traffic forecasts (travel demand), model analysis, DRI/PD&E/IMR/IJR reviews, GIS mapping, and on-site planning needs
- Carry out traffic impact studies to evaluate the effect of development projects on the surrounding transportation network and assess whether sufficient capacity is available to meet future demand. This includes traffic data collection at intersections, covering 24-hour bi-directional machine counts, segment traffic volumes, and 4-hour intersection turning movement volumes during peak AM and PM periods
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of experience in traffic engineering
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) License in Florida, EIT considered
