The Director oversees the programming and activity of the Judith Drake Zimmerman Center for Teaching Excellence at Goodwin University (CTE). The position operates within academic affairs. The director leads, manages, and supports faculty professional learning, programming, and activities, paying attention to the needs of early, middle, and late-career faculty. The position is responsible for providing opportunities for faculty to improve their teaching, service, and scholarship and supporting their pursuit of promotion. This work includes developing an onboarding/orientation plan for new full-time and part-time faculty in coordination with deans and program directors.
The director will lead, manage, and support initiatives that advance Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and related professional learning in support of faculty implementation of UDL. The director will support initiatives that advance Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) and related professional learning. The Director will lead, develop, support, and implement Open Educational Resources (OER) initiatives, honoring the established approach. The director manages and maintains the CTE operating budget. The director also works collaboratively with the University of Bridgeport CELT (Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching).
Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

- Leads, plans, coordinates, and implements professional development programs to support full-time and part-time faculty across their various career stages
- Works closely with the Provost, Deans, and Faculty Senate Executive Board to provide vision and leadership while fostering collaboration among the various departments and programs that support effective faculty professional development and advancement of UDL, DEIB, and OER initiatives
- Plans, develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates instructional programs of value to full-time, part-time, and adjunct faculty
- Develops an annual calendar for professional development training for faculty in various academic disciplines, with a particular emphasis on UDL, DEIB, and OER and completes and annual report of center activities
- Curates and disseminates research and resources on learning and teaching effectiveness and pedagogical and andragogical best practice to all GU faculty that enhance student learning and engagement
- Evaluate and recommend emerging educational technologies, establishing evidence based guidelines for their effective integration into instruction
- Provides online and in-person faculty training and coaching on best practices for online and on-ground learning and teaching, as informed by UDL, DEIB, and OER.
- Manages the annual UDL conference in collaboration with faculty and staff
- Helps the university identify and promulgate best practices in faculty development, teaching, and learning that aligns with GU curricula with a focus on UDL, DEIB, and OER principles.
- Participates in selecting, training, and supervising employees assigned to the Center for Teaching Excellence
- Participates in meetings of the Academic Leadership Team and open sessions of the Faculty Senate as needed
- Conducts all work safely and all work safety practices are followed

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:

- Possesses a working knowledge of instructional design principles, web, video and graphic applications, including UDL, quality benchmarks, and technology integration in teaching and learning
- Ability to cultivate and foster ties within the teaching and learning community both on and off campus
- Working knowledge of emerging technologies and strategies for successful integration into teaching and learning
- Excellent administrative, oral, written, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Strong leadership and organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, Adobe Creative Suites, Canvas Learning Management System, Databases, Course management systems
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience:
- Master’s degree (doctorate preferred) and significant experience as a faculty member, with expertise in UDL and a strong appreciation for faculty development, teaching and learning
- At least 3-5 years of experience with teaching and learning, preferably in a setting with a diverse learner population, preferably at the level of Associate Professor or higher
- Experience applying UDL, DEIB, and OER in educational practice
