About Goose Rocks Beach General Store
Goose Rocks Beach General Store is a seasonal café and convenience store located just 50 yards from Kennebunkport’s picturesque Goose Rocks Beach. Along with essential groceries, beach toys, and books, our store offers a café serving espresso drinks, freshly baked pastries, pizza, crepes, fried foods, salads, and more. In addition to Goose Rocks Beach General Store, we also own and operate Mornings in Paris Café and Creperie in Kennebunk, as well as Mornings in Paris Café in Ogunquit.

Our goal for the Assistant Manager is to foster growth through training, exposure to new skills, and personal development, with the aim of evolving into a well-rounded Assistant Manager. The role will continue to expand and develop at a pace that suits you. There will be a six-month personal development plan which is linked to performance and financial budgets which will go into effect after the probationary period.
Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Front of House Management
· Drive store sales and take joint accountability for profit and loss.
· Develop sales techniques to help staff increase guest counts and average check sizes.
· Collaborate with the owner/General Manager to implement strategies that exceed budgetary expectations for sales and operational costs, including the integration of daily promotions.
· Develop and maintain procedures to minimize costs and waste while maximizing quality control.
Operational Excellence
· Able to perform all essential functions including Senior Barista duties.
· Ensure all operational processes and procedures meet company expectations by establishing a standard of excellence.
· Ensure strict adherence to designated specifications, recipes, and procedures for beverage preparation.
· Prevent last-minute issues, product shortages, and equipment problems by being proactive and diligent in monitoring stock and supplies.
· Complete daily inventory list for ingredients and other relevant supplies in a timely manner.
Team Management and Development
· Lead the team by example in a positive and engaging manner, proactively addressing motivational and development needs.
· Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, supervising, and motivating team members as needed.
· Train, cross-train, and develop staff for career advancement.
· Assist with team member performance reviews.
· Directly supervise 6 or more on-duty employees.
Safety and Compliance
· Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, food handling guidelines, and sanitation standards.
· Ensure the safety and security of the store and team members during operational hours.
· Maintain the confidentiality of all trade secrets, including recipes, policies, and procedures.
Customer Experience and Community Relations
· Foster a fun and exciting atmosphere through personality and a positive attitude to encourage repeat visits from guests.
· Build and maintain strong business and community relationships.
· Develop and implement local merchandising and promotional programs.
· Propose and implement strategies to achieve 100% guest satisfaction.
Communication and Leadership
· Lead by example, setting a positive tone for the business by demonstrating a "can-do" attitude, strong problem-solving skills, and flexibility.
· Conduct regular departmental meetings and occasional team-building activities as needed.
· Ensure all daily side work is completed by staff and verified by management before leaving the premises.
· Coordinate all maintenance issues with upper management and arrange for preventive maintenance or repairs on restaurant equipment, ensuring the facility and grounds are properly maintained.
Work Schedule and Availability
The anticipated workweek averages 35-40 hours throughout the year, with potential for significantly longer hours during the busy summer season. As the General Manager, you will occasionally be contacted on days off to address critical issues, such as staff call-outs or emergencies, and will serve as a point of contact for the owner unless the situation requires their immediate attention. Flexibility to work special events, weekends, and some holidays is also required.
Minimum qualifications:
· Three to five years' experience in the restaurant business
· Basic PC software experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
· Must be able to communicate in English
· Must have reliable transportation and phone
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This position requires standing for extended periods, frequent walking, and the use of hands and fingers for handling and manipulating equipment and materials. The employee must also be able to reach with hands and arms, as well as communicate effectively through talking and listening. Additionally, the role may involve occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
