Under the direction of the Department Manager, the B&O Saw Operator ensures the production of company products at the highest quality and at the lowest possible cost, meeting company policies and procedures. The B&O Saw operator will act in a manner that is consistent with Gordon Aluminum’s Customer 1st Philosophy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.
The general purpose of the B&O Saw Operator is to control and operate metal saw and applicable processes using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity.
- Communicate with lead or supervisor to determine run schedule.
- Load and unload materials into and out of production equipment conveyors, and conveyances.
- Set up, operate, or tend saw that cuts aluminum extrusions to specified dimensions.
- Follow run schedule and retrieve materials needed.
- Examine products to verify conformance to quality standard.
- Count finished products or work pieces and record accurately.
- Clean machines, work area, tooling, or parts, using solvents or solutions, brooms and rags.
- Wear Common Protective or Safety Equipment such as Safety Shoes, Glasses, Gloves, Hearing Protection while adhering to all general safety policies.

Requirements : Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.
Education and / or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands
Physical Demands refers to the level and / or duration of physical exertion generally required to perform occupational takes (sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing and pulling).
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, use hands to handle, or touch objects or controls and reach with hands and arms. Perform repetitive motion of fingers, hands, wrists, shoulders and upper body. The employee is regularly required to walk. The employee must frequently lift up 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 25 to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
The noise level in typically loud in this work environment. Hearing protection is required.
Employee is expected to wear the required personal protective equipment when on the production floor.
