What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control Technician/CMM Programmer - 2nd Shift position at Gordon Aluminum Industries INC?
Under the direction of the Department Manager, the CMM Programmer/Operator ensures the production of company products at the highest quality and at the lowest possible cost, meeting company policies and procedures. The CMM Programmer/Operator will act in a manner that is consistent with Gordon Aluminum’s Customer 1st Philosophy.
The purpose of this position is to support the department’s ability to achieve its goals and objectives. This includes performing CMM programming tasks in support of the existing machining process and new product development. Other duties and assignments may be assigned as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.
- Write, develop, validate and debug measuring machine programs and provide the supporting documentation for all CMM machines.
- Support the development and improvement of measuring systems and effective programming for assigned areas.
- Train quality personnel on CMM machines.
- Must thoroughly understand concepts of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in determining part conformance to print.
- Assist in measurement development for APQP projects and the continuous improvement process for existing components.
- Communicate as needed with all supervisors, engineers, and managers to meet customer/shop floor needs.
- Ensure all PMs are being done on the CMM’s as needed.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands
Wear required safety equipment when on the shop floor. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and/or sit. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls, talk or hear. The employee is never required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste or smell.
The employee will frequently be required to lift up to 10 lbs. and regularly lift up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required for this position include clear vision close (20 inches or less)
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Employee is expected to wear the required personal protective equipment when on the production floor.
