What are the responsibilities and job description for the Educational Interpreter position at Gordon County Schools?
The job of educational interpreter is a related service provider who works under the direction who works under the direction of the administrator, program manager, or teacher to provide interpreting/transliteration services that facilitates communication between Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing with others as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides expressive and voice interpreting for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, staff, and others as appropriate.
Interprets for D/HH students being educated in a variety of educational environments.
Interperets for parent conferences, IEP meetings, field trips, assemblies, presentatons, and other school activities.
Prepares for D/HH student's classes as needed.
Provides tutuoring and instructional support to D/HH students under direction of teacher.
Participates in educational team meetings and provides information on student proficiency in communication.
Provides staff orientations on uses of interpreter.
Participates in meetings, conferences, and in-service trainings.
Supports the use of assistive technology, captioning, hearing aids, assistive listening devices, etc.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor's degree and appropriate certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Experience interpreting for D/HH students preferred. The Gordon County School System reserves the right to accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
Salary: Contracted Position, 178 days.
