Responsibilities
Assists a skilled or semi-skilled maintenance tradesman as directed
Performs such duties as repairing roads, cutting grass, demolition work and various other preparatory work for the trades
Performs simple and elementary work not specifically related to the trades, such as, moving equipment or materials to repair shops, including excavation, spreading top-soil, preparation of soil for grass, grass cutting, and snow removal
Operates a small truck to pick up items for delivery and drop off to jobsites
Loads and unloads truck
Fuels cars, trucks, and heavy equipment
Lubricates and greases trucks and heavy equipment such as articulated loaders and backhoes
Move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) short distances (20 feet or less)
Move light objects (less than 20 pounds) long distances (more than 20 feet)
Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time (i.e., picks up trash from road side, works under equipment)
Shovel and rake stone, sand, loam and other earth materials repeatedly or continually over time
Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements
Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation. This learning takes place mainly in an on-the-job training setting
Lift arms above shoulder level (i.e., throws bags and loose trash into a truck, enters the cab of a vehicle, uses a steam cleaner
Climb ladders or steps to reach objects
Work cooperatively with other employees and the public
Enter the cab of a vehicle that is 3.5 feet off the ground
Operate excavator using foot and hand controls and sometimes maneuver them in tight spaces
Routinely inspect safety equipment, lights, horns, tires, and cooling equipment before starting vehicle
Load trucks to maximize the use of space and distribute weight accordingly, and to ensure safety on the road
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
Understand and follow oral and written instruction in the English language
Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others
