Job Summary:
The Electrical Commissioning Technician oversees the commissioning, quality and compliance of commercial solar installations. This position will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and compliance of our projects through site audits and visual inspections.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Must be capable to supervise labor to facilitate electrical construction activities when required.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Conduct quality inspections and audits for commercial solar installations.
· Perform visual inspections of installed solar components and electrical connections.
· Review Contract documents to determine project requirements with an understanding to be capable of creating contract deliverables to meet project specific requirements.
· Must be capable of comprehending drawings and specifications, to include civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, and electrical.
· Perform commissioning activities, including Insulation Resistance Testing, Voltage Testing, Underground Cable Locating, IV Curve Tracing, Fall of Potential Grounding Testing, NETA Testing.
· Facilitate testing subcontractors where required to deliver NETA Testing within required contract specifications.
· Perform electrical remediation of failed electrical equipment, as determined through Commissioning activities.
· Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes and regulations.
· Helps to create and maintain quality control documentation and reports.
· Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and installation teams to address any quality concerns or issues.
· Assist in the development and improvement of quality control processes.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Previous experience in quality control or inspection role, preferably in the electrical commercial industry.
· Excellent written/verbal communication, project management and organizational skills.
· Proficient computer skills in a Windows environment (Microsoft Office Products) required.
· Safety trained for field work; OSHA 30 certificate preferred.
· Strong knowledge of solar industry standards, codes and regulations for both ground mount and rooftop solar installations.
· Strong electrical knowledge including codes and regulations.
· Proven track record of complex critical thinking skills.
· Ability to perform quality control analysis.
· Ability to read and understand construction drawings.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Must possess current valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.
· Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer.
· Must speak English fluently; Spanish is plus
· Must be able to travel extensively through the Eastern United States as needed for new and/or existing projects.
Education and Experience:
· 4 years’ experience with commission and quality control or inspection, preferably of commercial solar PV generating systems.
· Bachelors/Masters or Journeyman certification with knowledge and interest in renewable power industry.
· Proven leadership skills in performing quality control and inspection tasks.
· Experience working with hand tools, power tools and construction tools is preferred.
Work Environment:
· Work can take place both outside in a field-type environment (90%) or inside in a professional office setting (10%).
· Must be able to work in weather conditions and temperatures consistent with both outside and inside (hot, cold, wet, dry, quiet, noisy, windy).
Must be able to work confidently at various heights.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk short to long distances for 8-10 hours a day.
· Extended periods of reading fine print on a computer or in paper-based format.
· Must be able to lift up to 50-75 pounds on an occasional basis.
· Comfortable climbing ladders and working on rooftops.
· Must be able to travel extensively as needed to project jobsites.
· Must provide basic hand tools suitable for electrical construction.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
