Camp Director Position Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Camp Director for our Longmont camp location. As a Camp Director, you will lead and manage all aspects of your assigned camp’s operations, ensuring an engaging, safe, and memorable experience for every camper and staff member. This role is essential in maintaining our fun, inclusive, and dynamic camp culture where children can thrive.

Employment Details:

  • Camp Season (May 27-July 25): Full-Time salaried commitment on-site at the camp daily, overseeing daily operations and ensuring program excellence.
  • Off-Season: Approximately 5 hours per week, paid hourly, focused on pre-camp planning, staff recruitment and training, marketing, and other initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Camp Season (Off-Season)

  • Planning and Preparation: Coordinate with the leadership team to align camp goals and programs. Participate in pre-camp planning meetings. Review inventory, and ordering/supplies needs to prepare curriculum and dynamic weekly themes and lesson plans.
  • Staff Recruitment and Training: Recruit, interview, and hire camp staff within established guidelines. Partner with Management to oversee and complete reference and compliance checks. Plan and conduct staff training sessions to prepare for the upcoming season. Prepare staff communication leading up to the start of the program.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Develop and implement strategies for camp promotion and camper recruitment by reaching prospective campers, parents, and community organizations. Attend events, meetings, and expos (sometimes weekends) to represent Got Game Camp. Communicate with returning and prospective groups to encourage enrollment.

Camp Season (May 27-July 25)

  • Camp Operations: Oversee daily camp operations, ensuring programs run smoothly and efficiently. Implement effective programs that align with Got Game Camp's standards and values. Manage camp schedules, activities, and special events.
  • Staff Management: Supervise, support, and mentor camp staff to maintain a positive work environment. Conduct regular staff meetings to review procedures, provide feedback and accountability, and address concerns. Ensure all staff adhere to camp policies and procedures.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all campers and staff. Enforce safety protocols and emergency procedures as required. Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Parent and Community Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians. Communicate effectively with parents regarding camper experiences, concerns, and updates. Foster positive relationships with the local community and camp partners.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Previous experience in camp management, youth programs, or related leadership roles. Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a diverse team, and effective management of people. Experience in planning and implementing programs for children and youth.
  • Skills and Abilities: Strong leadership and organizational skills, flexible and adaptable. Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize, manage time, and work under pressure. Proficient in basic computer applications and administrative tasks, and comfortability with different software applications.

Experience Cont.:

In Colorado, day camps are licensed. The site director has certain requirements in order to clear compliance. Site directors must have verifiable education or training in work with school-age children in such areas as recreation, education, scouting or 4-H; and the program director must have completed at least one (1) of the following qualifications:

  • A four (4) year college degree with a major such as recreation, outdoor education, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field
  • Two years of college training and six (6) months (910 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of eighteen (18), in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children; or
  • Three years (5,460 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience and one of the following qualifications:
  • Complete six (6) semester hours, or nine (9) quarter hours in course work from a regionally accredited college or university;

or

  • Forty (40) clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children and the Department-approved courses in injury prevention, and playground safety for School-Aged Child Care Centers within the first nine (9) months of employment.

Must-Have Requirements:

Professional References: Provide three (3) complete professional references, including name, workplace, period of work together, phone number, and email address.

Personal and Emergency Contact Details: Submit complete personal and emergency contact information, including name, address, phone numbers, and birthdate (securely on file).

Verification of Qualifications: Submit a Letter of Verification of Qualifications from a previous employer confirming at least three (3) months (460 hours) of experience with school-age children.

Background Checks:

  • FBI Check
  • CBI (Colorado Bureau of Investigation) Check
  • TRAILS Abuse and Neglect Check
  • Out-of-State Background Check (if applicable within the last five years)

Health and Immunization:

  • Submit immunization records.
  • Complete a self-reported health history form.
  • Complete the PDIS Child Care and Preschool Immunizations Course (must be renewed yearly).

First Aid/CPR Certification: Provide a valid department-approved First Aid/CPR certification. If not certified, complete both online and in-person training prior to the camp season.

Ability to Work On-Site:

  • Commit to working daily on-site during the camp season, including opening and closing shifts.
  • Attend all mandatory training sessions and meetings.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation..

CDEC Staff Signature Page: Review and sign the policies and procedures document (Medication Administration Procedures, General Rules for Child Care Facilities, and Emergency Training).

Timesheets: Ensure timely and accurate submission of timesheets as required.

Safety and Preparedness Training:

  • Building and Physical Premises Safety (including storage of hazardous materials and bio-contaminants)
  • Standard Precautions Training
  • Emergency and Disaster Preparedness for Child Care Providers
  • Playground Safety for School-Age Child Care Centers

Child Protection and Development Training:

  • Recognition and Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect
  • Injury Prevention Training
  • Training on Child Development
  • Recognizing the Impact of Bias

Professional Development:

  • Register with the Colorado Shines Professional Development Information System (PDIS).
  • Complete required PDIS trainings:
  • Recognition and Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect
  • Standard Precautions
  • Emergency and Disaster Preparedness for Child Care Providers
  • Injury Prevention for Day Camp Programs
  • PDIS Child Care and Preschool Immunizations Course (renew annually)

Pre-Camp Training: Complete 15 hours of pre-camp training.
