Job Description:
The Assistant Director of New Student Engagement will contribute to the vision of the Office of Student Engagement as the primary contact, advocate, and resource for new undergraduate students throughout the entirety of their first year. The Assistant Director will design, implement, and collaborate in providing a comprehensive co-curricular first year experience, including the new student orientation processes for both the fall and spring semesters, as well as a variety of “touchpoint” programs, services, and opportunities to engage including monitoring, tracking, and regularly meeting with students. Assistant Director will hire, train, and supervise a staff of 18-22 undergraduate student leaders (i.e., “Goucher Guides”) who serve as mentors to new students for the entirety of the academic year.

Essential Job Functions:
60 % A. Student Engagement
- Design, implement, and assess all aspects of a comprehensive first year co-curricular experience for new undergraduate students throughout the academic year.
- Serve as primary contact, advocate, and resource for new students through individual and group conversations.
20% B. Supervision
- Recruit, hire, train, and assess a staff of 18-22 undergraduate student leaders to serve as student leader mentors throughout the academic year (“Goucher Guides”).
10 % C. Campus Leadership
- Participate and/or lead various committees including but not limited to new student onboarding, student success task force, student support and retention, summer read selection
- Collaboration, participation and/or attendance at campus wide events including but limited to new student move-in, Get Into Goucher, GALA, 5Gopher Madness, Fresh Check Day, etc.
5 % D. Administration
- Manage and administer operating budgets for the department, implementing efficient practices, and ensuring that all resources are optimally maximized.
- Facilitate quantitative and qualitative assessment of new student engagement for continual improvement.
Education:
Required: Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred: Master’s Degree in higher education, college student personnel, or related field.
Professional Experience:
Required: Two years’ experience in new student programs, campus programming, student activities, campus life, or academic advising.
Preferred: 4 years’ experience in new student programs, campus programming, student activities, campus life, and/or academic advising.
