Job Description :
The Exhibitions Director and Curator is responsible for leading Goucher College's exhibitions program. Key responsibilities include strategic planning, exhibition planning, program development, and operations in 3 key gallery spaces. The Exhibitions Director and Curator is also responsible for day-to-day gallery operations, management of all Goucher College sculptures, and teaching courses related to art or curatorial practice.
Essential Job Functions :
35 % A. Exhibition planning, overarching strategic planning, program development, daily operations planning, and execution of all exhibitions in three (3) key gallery spaces. Those spaces include : The Silber Gallery, The Rosenberg Gallery, and the Rosalie Bond Display Window. Manage current and / or future art collecting programs that complement exhibitions and academic initiatives of the College. Collaborate with library staff and faculty in Studio Art, Visual and Material Culture, and allied disciplines to enhance student learning through the creation, development, and mounting of exhibitions.
30 % B. Day-to-day operations, including but not limited to : program and audience development, event planning, programming, budget development and management, internal and external communications with cultural institutions and possible partners throughout the region, and interdisciplinary student exhibitions in the Collaborative Humanities Lab. Manage all art and sculptures on the College grounds and within offices and buildings.
20 % C. Curriculum planning and teaching of two courses per year related to art or curatorial practice.
10 % D. Collaboration with Advancement to identify and pursue new funding opportunities and manage existing grants and re-applications.
5 % E. Management and scheduling of gallery staff and student workers.
Education :
Required : M.A. in Art History, M.F.A. in Studio Art, or Master's in Curatorial Practice
Professional Experience :
Required : Three years of experience working in galleries, museums, or other visual culture / art historical professions. Experience preparing and installing gallery or museum exhibitions. Experience teaching art history, museum studies, or curatorial practice at the post-secondary level.
Preferred : Three years of experience directing or managing a college or university gallery or independent gallery. Three years of experience teaching art history, museum studies, or curatorial practice at the post-secondary level. Experience and success in securing grant funding.
Computer Skills : Experience with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel (preferably including the use of formulas, creating charts, and sorting data), and PowerPoint.
Other Skills, Abilities, Qualifications : Active certification (can obtain post-hire) to safely operate a GenieLift, Advanced experience of Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Photoshop and Illustrator) and website editing. Experience connecting and interacting with a diverse student population as well as stakeholders in the broader community. Exceptional writing, communication and research skills. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. Ability to plan, to balance long and short-term projects and deadlines, to multitask, and to be flexible.

This position requires the employee to operate a motor vehicle to perform essential job functions.
This position requires the employee to work weekends or evenings.
