Job Summary
The Head Ski Cross Coach is primarily responsible for the training leading toward USSA, FIS, and other non-sanctioned Ski Cross competitions. The Head Ski Cross Coach works with the Dean of Athletics to plan and execute both on and off-snow training sessions. Plans should be congruent with the schools current philosophy and follow the guidelines of safe and healthy competition as described by USSA/FIS.
The coach promotes a strong student-centered approach that exemplifies a respectful, inclusive, and dynamic environment. This involves fostering resilience, respect, inclusivity, and a sense of belonging among athletes. Adolescents under their guidance are empowered with agency, supported within a structured framework, and mentored for growth and development.
This position can be filled as a seasonal or full time position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coach
- Coach ski cross athletes
- Prepare the training venue (course set, fencing, snow preparation, etc)
- Conduct trampoline/dryland/off snow training activities
- Manage athlete transportation for daily training and races
- Conduct regular video review sessions either on-hill or as soon as possible after
- Transport on-snow athletes to/from airport/training venue
- Assist athletes with gear selection and maintenance
- Coach and support commercial ski training camps that support underclass enrollment
- Coach and/or administer summer ski camps
- Coach and/or administer GACP Ski Cross Program
- Regular communication with athletes, parents, and faculty
- Participate in professional development clinics/training
Travel Protocol / Camps / Overnight Trip
- 24 hr supervisory duties to include downtime, warm-up and cool down training, supervised study hall, equipment maintenance, and nutritional health and sleep habits
Recruit

Assists development of the recruiting process for on snow families to include:
- Visit structure
- Database management
- Mailings and inquires
- Identification of families
- Specific travel for admissions purposes
Manage
- Submits daily attendance on BlackBaud
- Plan offseason on snow training camps May- October
- Manage year-long training and race schedule for athletes
- Plan and present coaches' education programming
- Manage athlete equipment in cooperation with Sunday River Speedworks and equipment manufacturers
- Plan and execute away competitions including travel, lodging and supervision
- Submit accurate Trip ITs and Trip Recons in a timely fashion
- Plan athlete travel for in-season race and training opportunities
- Support dorm coverage for Gould campus camps
- Manage and maintain alpine program equipment (gates, timing, video, etc)
- Write periodic athlete comments
- Ensure that GACP athletes comply with the Code of Conduct and the GACP Participation Agreement
Professionalism
- Attendance and participation in team and organization meetings
- Prompt and frequent communication with athletes, parents, and faculty
- Involvement with USSA and USASA regional and national committees
- Meet general daily professional standards regarding attendance, timeliness, and deadlines
- Adhere to policies in the Employee Handbook and Community Guide
Community Life
Faculty help to supervise students on school nights and weekends. The snow sports team is exempt from community duty during the Winter Trimester but is required to support vacation housing.
