Mechanical Engineer

Overview

GovCIO is currently hiring for a Mechanical Engineer to provide technical support to the Navy’s Fleet Submarine Very Low and Low-Frequency Broadcast Engineering Support team. This position will be located in Charleston, SC and will be an onsite position.

Responsibilities

Evaluates electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of electricity and materials. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes. May analyze systems and processes, including heat transfer, fluid dynamic and thermodynamic principles for energy efficiency improvements.

• Provides installation, technical expertise, and training for all telecommunications equipment and components.
•  Installs, configures, terminates, and tests all telecommunications equipment, cables, connectors, and interfaces.
• §Performs intricate alignment and calibration procedures to ensure FVLF/LF radio transmitter systems are operating efficiently.
•  Resolve system operational problems by troubleshooting and performing fault isolation.
•  Diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform maintenance and repairs based upon manufacturer specifications and recommendations.
•  Responsible for engineering and/or installation activities within the telecommunications function including engineering, implementation, diagnostics, and operations/user support.
•  Monitors the operation of Radio Frequency (RF) network systems and transition mediums.
•  Performs complex tasks relating to telecommunication network operations, installation, and/or maintenance for local, off-site, and/or remote locations.
•  Gather technical requirements, conduct surveys and engage with clients, constructions crews, utility personnel, and various government departments.
•  Test, troubleshoot and repair circuit boards/cards if required.
•  Proficiently handle wiring and cabling installation and termination tasks.
•  Serves as a technical specialist for the resolution of complex RF Transmitter network problems.

Qualifications

Bachelor's with 5 - 8 years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills and Experience

• Clearance Required: Secret

High School Diploma, Technical School Certificate, or equivalent military training. Ten (10) years of experience with radio transmitters, antenna tuning systems, antennas, electromagnetic propagation and allied fields, to include: specialized experience with installation, test and evaluation of VLF/LF submarine broadcast transmitters.

• Ten (10) years of practical experience to include:

• · Ability to interpret and implement electronic, electrical, mechanical, and installation schematics and drawings.
• · Proficiency in using miscellaneous test equipment such as oscilloscopes and signal generators.
• · Understanding of electrical and electronic theory.
• · Experience in circuit modelling, design, and repair.
• · Knowledge of NAVELEX 0101,110 (series) criteria and its practical applications.
• · Methodical engineering approach with exceptional attention to detail.
• · Understanding and/or experience with PLC programming.
•  Outstanding communication skills.
• Electronics repair, maintenance and checkout. Formal electronics training, to include: Installation Tasks, Soldering, Cable Dressing, Cable Tray, Conduit, and Making/Repairing Connectors
• Ability to navigate and resolve ambiguity effectively. Mathematical aptitude.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

BS degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or Physics with Six (6) years of experience with high powered radio transmitters, antenna tuning systems, antennas, electromagnetic propagation and allied fields, to include: Systems Analysis, Systems Architecture, Systems/Equipment Support, Test and Evaluation, and Logistics support of C4ISR requirements. Three (3) years of technical experience in support of installing, modifying, repairing or testing high power radio transmitting systems.

Strongly desired: Electrical installation and systems installation knowledge.

Posted Pay Range

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
