Qualifications
To qualify for the Police Officer, PQ -0083-4 / 5, you must meet the following requirements :
To minimally qualify for the PQ-04 level, you must meet the following requirements as specified in ' A' or ' B' :
A. Applicants must possess at least 6 months of general experience which may include : Experience in administrative, clerical, technical, or military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; or that involved making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws. - AND -
Applicants must also possess at least 6 months specialized experience : Specialized experience is experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property.
B. Applicants must have successfully completed two (2) years of study at an accredited school above the high school level with at least 12 semester hours in police administration, police law and evidence, police investigation, criminology, law
enforcement, general law, or similar subjects closely related to police work.
To minimally qualify for the PQ-05 level, you must meet the following requirements as specified below :
Education : Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.
Combination of Education and Experience : A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
SUBSTITUTION OF TRAINING FOR EXPERIENCE NOTE : Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course that included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for a maximum of 3 months of specialized experience or 6 months of general experience.
Selectee will be required to successfully complete the Uniformed Police Training Program (UPTP) at FLETC. Employee must complete a three-year service agreement. This training must be successfully completed according to the standards of the agency within one year of employment. Failure to do so will be grounds for mandatory removal from the position. Such failure will result in separation by appropriate procedures. If employee separates from the police position, employee must pay back to the agency, Training Costs. Costs will be prorated based upon the time short of three years subsequent to successfully completing the Uniformed Police Training Program at FLETC.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This position offers a Recruitment Incentive of up to 10% of employee's salary in accordance with regulatory requirements, and in acceptance of a signed four-year service agreement.

Background Investigation :
For a Secret Clearance :
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a Secret clearance . To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Secret clearance . This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and / or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs; this security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.
GPO will conduct an interim security clearance, pending the completion of the full investigative requirements for the final Secret clearance . The interim security clearance will be granted based on the favorable completion of preliminary checks that are accomplished as part of the security clearance process. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
