Duties

  • Keeps track of uptime of critical network components, production interfaces, 24x7 data center operation and manages the vendors and service
  • providers' performance.

  • Performs a full range of supervisory duties in managing federal and contract staff, establishing budget needs for managing, maintaining, and keeping track of the agency's annual spending required to operate all facets of network infrastructures.
  • Leads and is a technical authority in managing and maintaining all LAN / WAN infrastructure services, data center operations, enterprise storage, and systems software installations for GPO.
  • Consult with the Division Chief and members of the IT Operations Division advising them on the enhancement and improvement of state-of-the-art network and data center functions according to agency standards.

  • Qualifications

    To qualify for the Supervisory IT Specialist (Network Services), PG - 2210 - 14 , you must meet the following requirements :

    Basic Requirements for Information Technology (IT) Management Series, 2210 (Alternative A) :

    This standard allows eligibility by meeting either the requirements specified in the section titled Education or the requirements specified in the section titled Experience .

    Education : All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions

    Undergraduate or Graduate Education : Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

    Note : An applicant who meets the basic requirements as specified above. Experience : Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below :

  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
  • In addition to the Basic Requirement Competencies above applicants must meet :

    Specialized Experience : Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the PG-13 grade level or higher in the Federal Service. Specialized experience for this position includes :

  • Develop and implement SOPs to monitor customer tickets, ensure 24x7 data center operations, and maintain critical network uptime while managing vendor performance.
  • Manage LAN / WAN infrastructure by installing, configuring, and maintaining network hardware and software to support secure data transmission across remote offices.
  • Plan and monitor IT budgets, ensure accurate vendor service tracking and contract management, forecast networking initiatives, and align spending with organizational Information Technology (InfoTech) goals.
  • The ability to lead or supervise IT federal and contractor staff by setting performance standards, assigning tasks, and providing training to ensure timely and effective project completion.
  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a background investigation for Suitability. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background check for Suitability. This review could include fingerprints and credit checks, as well as a full field FBI background investigation and tax and bar checks for attorney applicants. The background investigation covers a period of seven to ten years depending on the nature of the position; this process may take 6 weeks or longer. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to pass the background investigation.
