POSITION TITLE: BCBA- Behavior Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Special Education LOCATION: Districtwide
FLSA: Exempt (GMEA - Teacher)
Summary:
This position of Behavior Specialist is responsible for assessing and evaluating students with behavioral, psychological, developmental or social disabilities and then developing a plan that involves using applied behavior analysis, reinforcement and task analysis. Advises teachers and staff on best practices and approaches. The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)provides behavior analysis services and behavior management plans for both students who receive special education and students who are receiving supports through the Multi-tiered System of Supports (Tiers 2 and 3). The BCBA will also be responsible for providing professional development staff to implement various behavior plans for ES, AUS and other students.
Reporting Relationships:
- Works jointly with the Director of Pupil Services, and other Special Education staff.
- Works cooperatively with administrators, supervisors, staff, students, and the community to perform job responsibilities as outlined.
- Evaluations will be done by the immediate supervisor.
Terms of Employment:
- Salary and Benefits are as described in the current Agreement.
- Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions set forth by the Board of Directors and the Agreement.
Qualifications:
To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.
- Master’s Degree in related field.
- Eight or more years of experience in special education
- Completion of acceptable graduate coursework in behavior analysis, and a defined period of supervised practical experience and successful completion of the BCBA exam.
- Ability to properly communicate verbally and in writing
- Experience with dealing with the public.
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License preferred.
- Meet requirements set forth by the State of Pennsylvania and the Board of School Directors for employment.
Physical and Ability Requirements:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments for students who have behavior concerns and are receiving supports through MTSS tier 2 or 3, or special education services.
- Create and adjust plans for students who require specific behavior interventions.
- Participate in building level MTSS meetings
- Provide insight and coach staff on how to implement various plans for students with behavioral needs (in ES, AUS, and all classroom settings).
- Collaborate with building and district leadership as needed.
- Direct work with students who present complex and challenging behaviors (case by case basis).
- Provide support in service delivery, data collection, and general information regarding behavior analysis.
- Support team on occasion during IEP meetings in the district and out of the district.
- Review and provide insight into IEPs, re-evaluations
- Supports staff in programming for students.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with district guidelines
- Maintain a positive demeanor at all times including, but not limited to, the use of appropriate language.
- Demonstrates openness to suggestions for improving performance.
- Demonstrates initiative, independence and decision making appropriate to the performance tasks of this position.
- Adheres to professional, ethical, and legal standards.
- Any other duties assigned by District Administration.
