POSITION TITLE: School Psychologist

Summary:

School Psychologist is responsible for evaluating and addressing students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs by conducting psychological assessments, developing intervention plans, collaborating with teachers, parents, and school staff to create positive learning environments, and supporting students, all while aiming to optimize student success in the educational setting. This position plays a key role in Individual Education Plan creation, re-evaluations and team compliance. 


Reporting Relationships:

  • Works jointly with teachers, building administration, parents, social workers, external service providers, special education staff and administration
  • The immediate supervisor shall be the principal with matrix reporting to the Director of Pupil Services
  • Performance evaluations will be done by building administration in consultation with central administration

Terms of Employment:

  • GMEA collective bargaining agreement
  • Additional time for professional development, collaboration and summer schedules.


Qualifications:

To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.


  • Proper PDE and state licensure
  • Master’s degree in school psychology
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License preferred.
  • Meet requirements set forth by the State of Pennsylvania and the Board of School Directors for employment.


Physical and Ability Requirements:

  • Ability to reach above and below the waist.  
  • Ability to use fingers and hands to pick, feel and grasp objects.
  • Some stooping, kneeling, bending and twisting of the body required.
  • Ability to reach, pull, and use repetitive motions.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry more than 15 pounds.
  • Ability to sit/walk/stand/move throughout the work environment.
  • Visual and auditory acuity.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
  • Must be able to articulate lessons, ideas, and respond quickly to changing ideas and topics

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and address student academic, social, emotional and behavioral needs
  • Conduct assessments, evaluations, re-evaluations and perform other data gathering and review to , prepare necessary reports and recommendation
  • Provide supervision and instruction to students in assigned buildings
  • Conduct evaluations to determine learning differences, disabilities, and other identification
  • Coordinate support for student education and behavioral plans. 
  • Participate in team meetings, IEP meetings and parent conferences
  • Develop appropriate interventions and accommodations for students with special needs, and monitor their progress. 
  • Providing guidance on classroom management strategies, behavior interventions, and addressing student concerns. 
  • Collaborating with parents to discuss student needs, provide support, and develop home-school strategies. 
  • Collaborate with staff on student support and strategies 
  • Responding to immediate crisis situations within the school, providing support to students experiencing emotional distress. 
  • Collecting and analyzing data to inform decision-making and demonstrate the effectiveness of interventions. 
  • Facilitate group sessions 
  • Implementing school-wide programs to promote positive social-emotional development and mental health awareness. 
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities.
  • Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development.
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments.


  • Maintain order in the various educational settings.
  • Is alert to the students and their needs.
  • Supervise and assist students with various tasks.
  • Be knowledgeable of student Individualized Education Plans (I.E.P) and able to assist in supporting the student needs and goals.
  • Collect and record student data as determined by supervisors.
  • Communicates effectively and appropriately with employees, students, and the community.
  • Maintain confidentiality about students in accordance with district guidelines.
  • Maintain a positive demeanor at all times including, but not limited to, the use of appropriate language.
  • Demonstrates openness to suggestions for improving performance.
  • Maintain an appropriate record of punctuality and attendance.
  • Demonstrates initiative, independence and decision making appropriate to the performance tasks of this position.
  • Adheres to professional, ethical, and legal standards.
  • Performs all necessary activities to meet professional responsibilities
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or other District Administration.
