Line Cook Overview
Prepare, season, and cook dishes such as soups, meats, vegetables, or desserts in accordance with menu requirements and the standards of the restaurant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Turn or stir foods to ensure even
- Season and cook food according to recipes or personal judgment and
- Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils.
- Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
- Portion, arrange, and garnish food, and serve food to waiters or
- Substitute for or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush
- Bake, roast, broil, and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other
- Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables to prepare them for
- Carve and trim meats such as beef, veal, ham, pork, and lamb for hot or cold service, or for
- Inspect and clean food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces, or serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices.
- Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters.
- Ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old and new items, and rotating stock.

Experience
Minimum of two years of experience in restaurant setting.
Education
High School graduate/Equivalent.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Vision- must be able to see with or without corrective lenses. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Availability
Ability to work an open schedule, including evenings, holidays and weekends as necessary to meet the needs of GGC. Regular attendance is
an essential function of the job.
