BOARD SUBSTITUTE TEACHER (LONG-TERM) Science Instructor for Physics
The position teaches the last part of the first and into the second semesters of the 2024-25 academic school year. Dates of service : January 21, 2025, through March 31, 2025, for 48 days, with the possibility of more
January=9 days, February=19 days, March=20 days).
The daily rate for this position will be equivalent to the daily rate of the first year of experience of degree status on the teacher scale.
Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School for Government and International Studies is a regional magnet program for gifted high school students.
Board Substitute teachers (long-term) at MLWGS are responsible for providing classroom coverage for a teacher absent for an extended period. The long-term substitute works the regular hours of the absent classroom teacher during his / her absence.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Teaches content in subject areas utilizing curriculum designated by Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instruct students in basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School.
- May develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the school’s instructional philosophy and congruent with course / SOL standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and / or subgroups of students.
- Evaluate the academic and social growth of students, and keep appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
- Evaluates each student’s progress in meeting the course standards.
- Maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health, and attitude problems.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
- Administers testing in accordance with school testing practices.
- Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
