TEMPORARY FACILITY ASSISTANT FOR MAINTENANCE - 90 DAYS @ 28 HOURS / WEEK
GENERAL DESCRIPTION : The Facility Assistant for Maintenance is responsible for carrying out assigned duties to assist the Facility Manager in maintaining the school’s building, grounds and equipment. Will provide services intended to maintain, repair or modify a 150,000 sq. ft. building such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, and other trades. May be asked to perform some miscellaneous duties such as moving office furniture, supplies and / or equipment. Assists in general cleaning and upkeep, including replacement of light bulbs, plumbing fixtures, electrical switches and outlets, and minor repairs to doors and furniture, replacement of belts, fan filters, and other minor mechanical maintenance and repair. Participates in lawn mowing and snow removal activities; ensures that proper safety and security precautions are observed; works with school and community groups that utilize the building; as required. Participates in trash removal to outdoor units. Participates in moving and storing of shelves, furniture, equipment, boxed textbooks, and other supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
Inform the Facility Manager of the status of activities and suggest solutions for issues encountered
Perform special assignments as needed, or as requested by the Facility Manager
Represent yourself in a professional manner with staff, students, parents, and other visitors.
REQUIREMENTS : To be competitive applicants should have demonstrated ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions as well as being able to perform manual labor, with experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job. Extensive knowledge of and demonstrated ability to work safely and efficiently with various types of equipment and tools. Must pass a background investigation and police record check. Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license, CDL preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT : Work is regularly performed in a combination of office, academic, athletic field, and shop environments and is regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must respond to emergencies 24 / 7.
