The role of the Panel Build Technician is to wire custom control panels.  You will modify electrical enclosures according to drawings and use an electrical schematic to build the panel.  In addition, this role may help train and guide other Machine Builders and Panel Builders with best practice methods.  Quality and accuracy are key to complete the job the first time to ensure minimal scrap and on time delivery of the job.  A valid driver’s license is required.

 

Responsibilities

·         Oversee and perform complex assembly of custom control panels.

·         Be informed on how to be UL compliant for all Panel Builds.

·         Create and execute modifications to electrical enclosures using provided drawings and layout templates. Tasks include creating openings with drill presses, handheld drills, knockout punches, and jigsaws while ensuring compliance with electrical standards.

·         Interpret and apply Electrical schematics to build and troubleshoot system.

·         Mentor junior builders, providing guidance on assembly techniques, safety practices, and quality assurance.

·         Collaborate with engineering and design teams to recommend improvements to designs, optimize assembly processes, and resolve technical challenges.

·         Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies throughout all phases of machine building and testing.

·         Utilize checklists and open issues list to ensure complete and quality product

·         Use a variety of hand and power tools, as well as specialized machinery, for cutting, shaping, and assembling components.

·         Maintain accurate records of the build process, including any modifications made and issues encountered.

·         Ability to meet physical demands and perform the essential job functions within the work environment.

Qualifications and Skills:

·         5 years control panel building experience.

·         UL508A certification is Preferred.

·         Proficiency in interpreting and applying mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.

·         Expertise in using tools and equipment such as drill presses, handheld drills, knockout punches, tapping tools, and jigsaws.

·         Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical systems during assembly and testing.

·         Experience identifying and resolving issues in a fast-paced environment.

·         Good written and verbal communication skills.

·         Must be able to work independently.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Physical Demands: 
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time and be able to move about in an outdoor, warehouse, and machine shop environment. 
    • Operate computer, machinery, tools, vehicles, and industrial equipment and must have the ability to use hands to move, set up, adjust, assemble, control, test, operate, or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. 
    • Constantly communicate and exchange information with team members and must be able to effectively communicate correct information with vendors. 

o   Read/comprehend, write, communicate orally, reasoning, and analytical abilities, and mental flexibility. 

    • Frequently move objects up to 75 pounds.
    • The employee will constantly climb, bend, squat, kneel, crouch, and reach above shoulder when working with equipment, material loading and unloading, and other related tasks. 
    • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to compare and distinguish material grades and administrative data. 

o   Hearing ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking level with or without correction.  Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound.

 

·         Work Environment: 

o   While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly working indoors in machine shop facility which has non-controlled environmental conditions. 

o   Exposure to hazardous materials, extreme heat, and proximity to moving mechanical parts. 

o   Requires wearing common protective and safety equipment.

o   Position may involve extended work hours. 

o   Exposure to sound and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.

 

Travel Requirements

This position requires travel less than 10% of the time.  Maintain a valid Driver’s License.
