What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operator, Assembly position at GPD Optoelectronics?
Perform various manual and automated assembly operations in the manufacture of photodiodes and related semiconductor products. These activities are performed in a clean room environment which is temperature and humidity controlled. This position requires you to wear a gown, bouffant, gloves, booties, and safety glasses at times while performing certain duties.
This full-time, non-exempt role will be located in Salem, NH and will report to the Director of Operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Complete detailed and precise mechanical assembly of semiconductor assemblies requiring dexterity in handling small tools and parts.
- Mount, align, and perform inprocess testing to ensure final assemblies meet prescribed specifications.
- Create electrical interconnects using gold wire bonding tools.
- Demonstrate the ability to read and work from assembly drawings, verbal instructions, and engineering sketches.
- Uses precision measuring instruments to ensure conformance with dimensional and electrical specifications and tolerances.
- Work for prolonged periods under stereo zoom microscope.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Attention to detail and above average hand eye coordination is required for this position.
- Must have good manual dexterity and be able to work with small components.
- Ability to use microscopes, screwdrivers tweezers, and other miscellaneous tools.
- Should be knowledgeable about handling and working the various adhesives and epoxies.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision.
- Good communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to maintain a high level of quality awareness by adhering to policies and procedures; guarantees parts meet our quality expectations.
EDUCATION, REQUIREMENTS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to identify, multitask, and resolve multiple priority issues quickly.
- Ability to approach tasks in a detailoriented manner.
- Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions.
- Semiconductor experience and JSTD001 certified is preferred.
- High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The employee will be required to work on small parts with extended periods of micro-scope work at times.
Could include long periods of standing or sitting while performing job functions.
Basic lifting, twisting and reaching capabilities are required to access/process materials with a weightlifting requirement of up to 20 lbs.
Specific vision abilities required by this position include;
Close vision, distance vision, working under micro-scope and the ability to adjust focus.
