Job Summary:
The Quality Technician is responsible for ensuring product quality and compliance in a batch manufacturing process for cleaning products. This role supports production by performing in-process inspections, testing raw materials, monitoring batch formulations, and ensuring adherence to regulatory and company quality standards. The Quality Technician works closely with production and quality teams to identify and resolve quality issues, ensuring that all products meet internal specifications and external regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Control & Testing:
- Conduct routine in-process and final product inspections to verify compliance with specifications.
- Perform laboratory testing on raw materials, in-process batches, and finished goods, including pH, viscosity, density, and other relevant tests.
- Ensure proper sample collection, labeling, and documentation per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Support investigations of out-of-specification (OOS) results, deviations, and customer complaints.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment in accordance with calibration and maintenance schedules.
Batch Process Monitoring:
- Review and verify batch production records to ensure compliance with formulations and standard procedures.
- Perform line checks, including packaging, labeling, and coding verification.
- Assist production teams in resolving quality-related issues in real time.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and industry regulations (e.g., EPA, FDA, ISO).
- Maintain accurate and complete quality records, including test results, deviations, and corrective actions.
- Assist in internal and external audits by providing documentation and explanations as required.
Continuous Improvement & Problem-Solving:
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) investigations to address quality issues.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend solutions to enhance product consistency and quality.
- Provide training and guidance to production staff on quality expectations and best practices.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field is a plus.
- Knowledge of quality testing methods and laboratory techniques related to cleaning products or chemical manufacturing.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including safety data sheets (SDS), batch records, and specifications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and experience with quality management software or ERP systems.
Preferred:
- Experience in liquid or powder chemical batch processing.
- 2 years of experience in quality control/assurance within a manufacturing environment, preferably in batch manufacturing or chemical processing.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards such as GMP, ISO 9001, or EPA/FDA requirements.
- Training in statistical process control (SPC) and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Understanding of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) or similar quality systems.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Work is performed in a manufacturing and laboratory environment, which may involve exposure to chemicals, strong odors, and varying temperatures.
- Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting materials up to 50 lbs.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coats, gloves, and safety glasses is required.
- May require flexibility to work different shifts, including weekends or overtime, based on production needs.
