Position Type: Part-time Non-Exempt 24 hours per week

Position Summary: This role requires a committed believer and disciple of Jesus Christ. The Business-Finance Manager’s purpose is to serve the church by managing, planning, advising, and conducting the business, administration and financial affairs of Grace Bible Church (GBC) with the highest level of integrity and professional ethics in order to support the goals, vision and mission of GBC. The successful candidate must sign the church’s doctrinal statement as evidence and affirmation that his/her beliefs are the same as the church’s upon being hired and annually in January of each year thereafter.

Position Oversite: This position reports to the Senior Pastor or, in his absence, this position reports to the Interim Lead Pastor. Work schedule will be coordinated with the Senior Pastor.

The Business-Finance Manager’s Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Fulfilling the Office of Treasurer as described in the Constitution of the Grace Bible Church by keeping an accurate account of all monies received and disburse them only in accordance with the approved annual budget, specific policies or by the approval of the Church. He/she shall give a report of the treasury to the pastors and deacons, all of which shall be kept on file. No designated funds shall be diverted from their purpose, except by vote of the Church.

Acting as an advisory member of the Finance Committee at (GBC).

The duties listed below are examples of the various types of work to be performed.

The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this position.

1. Manage accounts payable, payroll, benefits administration, accounts receivable, bank statements and other accounting records related to the finances of the church.

2. Assure accounting methods and practices are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This includes managing internal and external auditing.

3. Prepare and submit tax reports and payments in compliance with Federal and State Tax regulations.

4. Oversee the work of the Financial Secretary who maintains updated records of individual giving and provides annual contribution statements.

5. Manage appropriate funds of all designated gifts, including memorial gifts and deferred giving, and assist in the management of the church’s programs such as bequests, endowment or trust funds.

6. Assure monthly financial statements are available to the Pastoral staff, Deacon board and Finance committee. Additionally, provide financial reports to the congregation and present business and finance updates at congregational business meetings.

7. Assist the Pastoral staff and Deacon board in the preparation process of the annual budget, communicating year-to-date finances with Ministry Leaders and compiling a proposed budget for review and approval. Additionally, present proposed budget to the Congregation for approval.

8. Establish and oversee accounting records for church-supported missionaries/organizations, mission’s activities, external ministries, building contracts, or other special projects deemed necessary.

9. Work with the Deacon board and Trustees to ensure that appropriate and adequate insurance coverage is in place, including worker’s compensation insurance, employee health insurance, and property, casualty and liability insurance.

10. Establish and maintain an asset list for business and insurance purposes.

11. Research, evaluate, and sign service contracts within budgeted guidelines for operations, such as rental items, internet and phone lines, office equipment maintenance, etc.

12. Assist with preparation and implementation of business and financial-related policies and procedures.

13. Maintain personnel files and assure employees are paid appropriately for approved time off or other approved compensation in accordance with the personnel policies and employee records.

14. Adhere to budgetary limits and procedures for all requests for purchases, repairs and maintenance as needed.

15. Manage and maintain copies of church policies, records of church personnel to include salaries, hours of work and leave.

16. Attend financial and business administration-related seminars or webinars as needed to keep up to date with current laws, regulations and practices. (cost covered by the Church)

17. Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. A graduate of a four year college, with a degree in accounting/finance or business (with finance management emphasis) strong history of experience in business administration and finance management. CPA preferred, but not required

2. Have experience in maintenance of financial, fiscal, and payroll record keeping.

3. Have experience in business and administration activities including but not limited to insurances, contracts and basic HR

4. Have experience in Microsoft Office applications and data management programs.

5. Possess excellent communication and organizational skills and the proven ability to work well with others fostering unity, cooperation and teamwork.

6. Be able to read, interpret, and explain tax and payroll laws, rules, and regulations, and to stay updated with new laws, rules, and regulations as they relate to all business and finance activities.

7. Be an active member of Grace Bible Church (preferred) or of a local like-faith church.

Note: This job description may be reviewed and/or revised as needed by the Senior Pastor and Deacon board annually to reflect changes in responsibilities.
