SUMMARY

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIB IL ITIES include the following:

- Ensure the maintenance of high quality resident care on his/her assigned floor by:
- Giving medications and treatments to residents as ordered and assessing effectiveness.
- Making regular rounds to assess and evaluate conditions and needs, observing staff performance in care activities.
- Assigning, directing, and supervising Nursing Assistants in giving resident care utilizing the plan of care.
- Arranging for adequate supplies and properly functioning equipment.
- Maintaining established policies and procedures, standards of practice and productivity, quality assurance; safety, environmental and infection control and other regulatory requirements.
- Participating in regularly scheduled Care Conference. Documenting timely and accurately on the resident clinical record.
- Identifying resident problems and needs, setting goals, interventions and writing on plan of care.
- Completing or assisting with activities left from previous shift.
- Accompanying physician on rounds.
- Notifying physicians, family members, and Care Team members of changes in resident's condition.
- Investigating and resolving resident and/or family complaints and referring abuse or neglect issues to Director of Nursing or Administrator immediately.
- Calling physicians, handling referrals to consultants.
- Encouraging rehab/restorative programs to improve resident functioning.
- Maintain a qualified, efficient Nursing Staff on his/her floor by:
- Coaching, teaching, and counseling, and disciplining Nursing Assistants as needed.
- Resolving problem situations and reporting the unresolved situations to the proper person.
- Assisting with the orientation of new Nursing Staff.
- Evaluating the performance of Nursing Assistants on a regular basis. Enhance professional and personal growth and development by: Attending mandatory facility in-services.
- Seeking in-service education pertinent to issues related to long term care setting.

Directly supervises 2-7 employees in the nursing unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must hold an active RN license in the State of Ohio.
