Job Title: Substitute Teacher
Reports To: Appropriate School Level Principal
Job Summary
Substitutes are those who fill temporary vacancies created when teachers or teaching assistants are absent or on leave from the workplace.

Qualifications and Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:
- Submit and complete an online application
- Submit contact information for three references
- Complete and sign a reference check consent and authorization form
- Authorize employer to obtain information for employment and volunteer purposes
- Successfully pass a background check and a drug screen before being added to the approved sub roster. The applicant incurs the cost of the background check.
To make the work of the substitute teacher as satisfactory as possible, the regular teacher shall make available the following:
- Daily schedule (academic and supervisory)
- Class rosters
- Lesson plans and other information for the day’s activities. In case of an emergency when plans are not provided, the principal should be made aware of the situation.
- All substitute teachers will be given a copy of the school’s guidelines during orientation. These guidelines shall contain, but shall not be limited to:
o Attendance procedures
o Announcements
o Bell Schedules
o Lunchroom schedule and procedures
o Procedures for supervising students
o Important phone numbers and email addresses of principals
o Safety and Critical Incident Plan
o Student Illness/Medication Procedures
o Dress Code
o Other helpful information particular to Grace Christian Academy
- Substitute Teachers shall also assume duties and responsibilities such as playground supervision.
- The appropriate school-level principal or designee shall determine which substitute teachers performed at an acceptable level.
- Substitute teachers who performed below an acceptable level shall not be recommended for continuing service.
- Establish and maintain satisfactory, respectful working relationships within the school environment
- Perform other duties as assigned.
