Job Summary
Responsible for the implementation and management of the school health plan through maintaining a comprehensive health education program and utilizing the clinical knowledge base for delivery of care. The nurse collaborates with other school professionals, parents, and care givers to meet the health development and educational needs of the students.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide direct care utilizing nursing assessment skills by attending to the immediate health needs of all students including injury, sickness, as well as any chronic disease management/ education and communication with families.
- Daily medication administration and recording, compliant with requirements.
- Create, communicate, and facilitate all medical policies and procedures to students, faculty, and parents, including but not limited to food, field trips, physical and athletic participation, and day-to-day on campus activities.
- Compile, maintain, monitor, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required including clinic records and accurate, updated health records on all students.
- Manage and facilitate school compliance with all state regulations and mandates, including student screening, medication administration and paperwork.
- Order and stock necessary supplies for the nurse’s office for all school related medical needs, including nursing supplies, classroom supplies (emergency go bags), and first aid kits.
- Schedule, plan and oversee CPR/First Aid certification course offered for faculty and staff before the start of the school year.
- Provide training for staff on various needs such as epi-pen training, AED training, and other health related topics.
- Manage and facilitate paperwork for each teacher to be aware of the medical needs for their incoming students before the start of the school.
- Refer children and families for appropriate follow up medical care, contact families to follow up on absences and medical conditions.
Qualifications:
· Texas Registered Nurse license and be certified in Healthcare Provider CPR and AED
· Bachelor of Science & Nursing (BSN) or graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
· Experience as a nurse working with children, specifically in K-8 strongly preferred.
· Minimum two years recent medical experience coupled with strong assessment and organizational skills.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Attention to detail, plus the ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse group of administrators, teachers, faculty and staff.
· Frequent walking to all areas of the campus, standing, stooping, and bending; work with frequent interruptions, and model behavioral that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
