Gracelight Community Health (Gracelight) is a mission driven Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality care to underserved communities across Los Angeles. As we enter an exciting phase of growth—including expansion of clinical services and the launch of an ACGME-accredited residency program—we are seeking a dynamic, visionary Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to lead our clinical strategy and ensure excellence across our five health center sites.

The CMO will serve as a key executive leader, advancing quality, safety, and innovation while also maintaining a direct connection to patient care. This is a unique opportunity for a physician leader who is passionate about equity, education, and community impact to shape the future of healthcare delivery in Los Angeles.

 

Summary

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and the senior clinical strategist. As the organization enters a period of growth, the CMO plays a central role in expanding clinical services, strengthening quality and safety, and partnering with other executives to scale operational excellence across all health center sites. The CMO leads the development and execution of Gracelight’s clinical vision, ensuring alignment with its mission to provide high-quality, community-centered care that addresses health disparities and improves outcomes.

The CMO also serves as the Designated Institutional Officer (DIO) for clinical education, overseeing the launch and integration of Gracelight’s ACGME-accredited residency program. This includes building academic partnerships, supporting faculty development, and ensuring the training environment reflects best practices in care, equity, and professional growth. To maintain a strong connection to frontline care, the CMO maintains a clinical practice one day per week (20% time). Through collaborative leadership, the CMO drives innovation, fosters provider engagement, and advances organizational priorities with a commitment to service, equity, and excellence. Essential duties and responsibilities of the CMO include:

  1. Develops and implements systems that ensure high-quality care, patient safety, and adherence to evidence-based clinical standards.
  2. Leads the development and execution of Gracelight’s clinical strategy in alignment with organizational growth and operational goals.
  3. Oversees the provision of all clinical services, including primary care, specialty care, behavioral health, OB/GYN, dental, and vision services.
  4. Ensures organizational compliance with HRSA requirements, including OSV readiness, HIPAA regulations, and other applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  5. Oversees all quality improvement and assurance activities, including peer review, clinical audits, performance benchmarks, and board-level reporting.
  6. Reviews, develops, and enforces clinical policies, protocols, and procedures; submits clinical policies for board approval.
  7. Reviews patient grievances and leads efforts to resolve quality-of-care concerns; participates in incident reporting and risk mitigation
  8. Recruits, hires, and orients new medical providers in coordination with Human Resources and other leadership.
  9. Provides ongoing supervision, support, and coaching to clinical providers; establishes standards for professional conduct, attendance, and productivity.
  10. Ensures provider performance evaluations are completed regularly and addresses performance issues as needed.
  11. Works closely with the COO and other leaders to implement systems that improve clinic operations, including EMR optimization and patient flow enhancements.
  12. Leads development and monitoring of clinical productivity standards and visit targets; supports achievement of HEDIS, STARS, and UDS quality measures.
  13. Provides executive oversight of clinical credentialing and privileging; delineates clinical scopes of practice across disciplines.
  14. Chairs or actively participates in internal clinical committees and collaborates with operational teams to align medical and administrative functions.
  15. Oversees and participates in the referral management process and utilization review.
  16. Maintains a clinical practice one day per week (20% time), treating patients within the scope of licensure and organizational protocols.
  17. Conducts physical exams, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, prescribes treatments, and completes timely documentation in the EMR.
  18. Ensures strict adherence to infection control protocols and maintains patient confidentiality standards.
  19. Serves as the Designated Institutional Officer (DIO) for the ACGME-accredited residency program, overseeing program implementation and integration.
  20. Builds and maintains academic partnerships; supports faculty development and a culture of teaching excellence.
  21. Oversees and supports initiatives to ensure continuous improvement in clinical outcomes, patient experience, and operational efficiency.
  22. Collaborates with executives to plan and implement new clinical programs, facility expansions, and operational initiatives.
  23. Participates in grant writing, reporting, and program development activities related to clinical services and medical education
  24. Represents Gracelight in public forums, stakeholder meetings, and community events; promotes the health center’s mission and services.
  25. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications, Skills, & Abilities

  1. Valid and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of California; no prior or pending disciplinary actions.
  2. Board certification in a primary care or relevant specialty.
  3. Current DEA registration and BLS/CPR certification.
  4. Minimum of five years healthcare leadership or medical management experience, preferably in an FQHC or similarly complex, mission-driven healthcare setting.
  5. Experience launching medical programs and leading through program audits and regulatory reviews.
  6. Strong understanding of current clinical and scientific treatment methods in area of specialty; knowledge of psychosocial, educational, and preventative care models.
  7. Demonstrated leadership in graduate medical education and familiarity with ACGME accreditation standards.
  8. Proven managerial skills in high-demand environments with diverse populations, limited resources, and complex staffing models.
  9. Experience collaborating with IT teams to implement and optimize electronic health record (EHR) and practice management systems.
  10. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and external representation.
  11. Demonstrated ability to analyze, problem-solve, and implement strategic and clinical solutions in dynamic environments.
  12. Strong organizational, analytical, and team management skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
  13. Ability to work effectively with patients and staff across culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
  14. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
