Job Overview :
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a critical role in ensuring the people we support participate in a safe, healthy, clean, supportive, respectful, and meaningful environment.
The DSP is responsible for ensuring the toileting, hygiene, eating, and nursing care plan, behavior plan, and a person-centered plan is implemented as identified.
The DSP's responsibilities also include : assuring timely documentation and communication with other residential / day programs occurring at the change of shift.
DSP Responsibilities :
Assure applicable supports are provided for each person.
Participate in person-centered planning activities.
Assist each individual in meeting the outcomes identified in the approved planning documents.
Encourage and assist with individual choice and exploration of means to improve long-term health status.
Introduce and enhance community resources and membership.
As appropriate, use assistive technology to assist the person in gaining greater knowledge and skills as a means to enhance communication, personal independence, work productivity, etc.
Provide personal care (including toileting and showering) as appropriate for ALL people supported, not only the people to whom ‘assigned' for the shift.
Work respectfully and cooperatively together as a unified team member in a professional manner with other day and residential staff, families, and community members.
Assure electronic documentation and verbal shift reports, are completed accurately and timely before the end of each shift.
Identify, verbally report, complete, and submit written information on any instances of potential abuse, neglect, mistreatment, and / or rights allegation or concerns.
Maintain confidentiality of people and programs at.
Assure compliance with all policies and procedures and licensing regulations.
DSP Qualifications :
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and / or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver’s license with one year’s experience with less than two (2) points.
Other skills preferred :
A minimum of one year’s experience providing support to people with developmental disabilities with dignity and respect in community settings is preferred.
Experience working in a day setting for people with developmental / intellectual disabilities.
Experience and knowledge in a wide array of community activities and connections.
Must take and maintain Driver Safety certification to be able to drive a company vehicle.
Must successfully pass all pre-employment screenings.
Must successfully complete all DDA and agency required training within 90 days of employment and maintain timely applicable certification.
Must successfully complete MTTP training to be med-certified with 90 days of employment and be approved as a CMT by the delegating nurse.
Must successfully complete refresher trainings within the identified timeframes.
