Position Summary
Finalize the development and design of new products, components, and/or systems. Adapt existing designs for new models and redesign current products to maintain and enhance the competitive status of the Company’s products in the market.
Essential Duties
- Develop designs from engineering and function specifications from established parameters. Review existing specifications and data as required.
- Collaborate with project engineers and supervisors in developing project time schedules and major design considerations toward completion of new models.
- Possess a professional knowledge of manufacturing techniques and tolerances and assist other departments in design considerations for manufacturing processes and cost evaluations.
- Apply ingenuity to produce effective, efficient solutions to design issues.
- Prepare design sketches and specifications on major features of new models and mechanisms.
- Prepare layouts, assembly drawings, BOM’s and other necessary drawings for completion of projects.
- Consult with engineering specialists to select materials required for designs.
- Identify and resolve design and system problems.
- Interact with other Design Engineers, Technicians, Technical Writers and other Engineering personnel as required to complete new and/or existing designs.
- Support efforts to maintain ISO certification related to engineering.
- Perform lesser functions, for a limited time, when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to perform each essential duty of the job satisfactorily.
- Proficient in Pro-E with Pro Cabling experience is preferred.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Excel and Word as a minimum.
- Ability to read blueprints and shop drawings.
- Ability to research part numbers, assemblies and installations using manuals, machine history files and engineering drawings.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to formulate and deliver ideas and material in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to listen and understand the requirements of the customer and to formulate and provide appropriate recommendations to address customer needs.
- Ability to interact with others in a professional and pleasant manner, to be sensitive to others’ needs and feelings and to be understanding and helpful on the job.
- Ability to maintain composure, keep emotions in check, control anger and avoid aggressive behavior, even in very difficult situations.
- Ability to be honest and ethical.
- Ability to be careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
- Ability to be pleasant with others on the job and display a good-natured, cooperative attitude.
- Basic proficiency in the use of personal computers; including manufacturing/production systems and generic mainstream office software (i.e. Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.)
- Knowledge of GMS and safety systems to ensure compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or relevant field
- One or more years’ experience in engineering design.
- Or five or more years’ relevant engineering design experience couples with formal technical training in design.
