What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ruby on Rails Developer | CTO position at GradBetter?
What we do :
GradBetter is a college planning and affordability platform. It is built, has paying customers and profitable. We've found product-market fit and are targeting a niche industry with static competitors.
GradBetter is well positioned for the increasing intersection of college planning and affordability.
GradBetter is bootstrapped with large equity potential for CTO and a monthly stipend. A strong drive, tech stack match and development velocity is key as we build features with customers and absorb smaller players in the space without a full CRM to provide a hub for customers. Strategic advisors are in place and there is large upside potential in High School / Financial Advisor markets along with an attractive competitor landscape.
What you'll do :
We're looking for a pragmatic engineer with experience building Ruby on Rails applications to lead the development of GradBetter. This includes writing & deploying the software, managing the system uptime, helping to decide what features to build, and optionally meeting with customers / attending conferences if desired. It's an exciting time as customers actively contribute their time, content and expertise (all unpaid) to helping GradBetter grow.
About our tech stack :
GradBetter is built on Ruby on Rails 7, with Hotwire and javascript. It runs on AWS EC2 autoscaled servers with a MySQL database. Redis (AWS hosted ElastiCache) is used as the Rails cache. Billing is through Stripe.
What you bring to the team :
A solid understanding of Ruby on Rails, javascript, MySQL, and general Linux server administration. A passion for software engineering architecture and making high-quality contributions to a modern, production web application.
How you will make an impact :
You will own the technical direction and creation of GradBetter’s products. Along with the other founder, you will be responsible for directing the future growth of the company. The founder has bootstrapped a prior business in an adjacent industry to acquisition after a competitive sale process. He handles design (Figma), sales and marketing, operations (all roles other than coding).
The platform builder is seeking a change for personal / family reasons. He will continue advising, supporting growth and fully assist in the transition.
What we offer :
This is an early-stage founding role, and comes with significant upside potential. You will own a significant equity stake in the business, benefit from its growth and enjoy the flexibility to work how and when you see best.
We can provide priority on profit sharing and a monthly stipend in addition to equity, ensuring flexibility.
Clarify your fit :
If this opportunity is a great fit for you both personally and professionally, then message directly to explain why. Ultimately, bootstrapping a start up is very rewarding with freedom, flexibility and control, but it's also challenging and requires grit and determination.
