Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Director of Simulation and indirectly to the Simulation Program Manager, the Simulation Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive technical support for the operations of the Simulation Center. The primary duties include the preparation, maintenance, and repair of computerized manikins, high-fidelity task trainers, and related multimedia peripherals used by a variety of learners, including Physicians, Residents, Fellows, and other medical professionals. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, be detail-oriented, and have experience in healthcare simulation or related technical fields.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support research and certification projects for the Simulation Center, assisting faculty with abstracts, presentations, poster production, conference workshops, and manuscript preparation as needed.
  • Establish and manage accurate records of all simulation activities, including a detailed log of training sessions, digital recordings, and equipment maintenance and repair records. Provide training and technical support to faculty, facilitators, and staff on simulation technologies, AV equipment, and operational processes within the Simulation Center. Identify the need for replacement equipment and coordinate procurement, working closely with vendors for troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of all simulation resources and equipment.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on simulation equipment to ensure functionality and reliability.
  • Ensure the Simulation Center and all equipment are organized and prepared for each teaching session. This may involve moving and setting up heavy equipment, including simulators and other materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Operate and troubleshoot simulation and audiovisual equipment, including LCD projectors, monitors, anesthesia machines, and other devices.
  • Exhibit flexibility to occasionally work evenings or weekends to accommodate simulation schedules. Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure the effective functioning of the Simulation Center.
  • Serve as the simulator operator, programming, testing, and running simulation scenarios in collaboration with instructors and facilitators.

Education

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree, or currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program in biomedical engineering, information technology, or a related scientific field.

Experience

Required:

  • Experience working with high-tech human patient simulators, task trainers, computer-based simulators, EKG machines, or 3D printing technology in technical support or maintenance of simulation equipment.
  • Complete certification in healthcare simulation, Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS), within 18 months of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
