Job Overview
The Field Engineer for Underground Utilities Installation is responsible for managing all aspects of utility installation projects across Mississippi. This dynamic role requires relocation to project sites and offers rapid career growth for fast learners who demonstrate strong leadership and initiative. The Field Engineer will also have opportunities to be involved in bidding and estimating future projects, providing a hands-on role in shaping the business’s direction.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Scheduling : Develop and adjust detailed project plans and timelines for utility installations, considering site-specific conditions. Coordinate with design and engineering teams to ensure project specifications and technical drawings align with regulatory requirements.
On-Site Supervision : Serve as the on-site leader for managing crews, subcontractors, and equipment operators. Ensure that construction activities adhere to schedules, quality standards, and safety protocols. Monitor work progress, perform site inspections, and troubleshoot any operational issues.
Bidding & Estimating : Participate in project bidding and estimating processes. Work closely with the estimating team to evaluate potential projects, develop cost assessments, and prepare proposals. Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to gather pricing and ensure cost-effective solutions.
Budget Management : Oversee project budgets, tracking expenses and ensuring adherence to financial goals. Ensure all cost control procedures are followed and report variances in a timely manner.
Stakeholder Communication : Regularly update clients, stakeholders, and management on project status, risks, and milestones. Conduct project meetings and facilitate communication between team members and clients.
Risk Management & Problem Solving : Identify and mitigate potential project risks related to timelines, costs, or compliance. Develop and implement solutions to unforeseen challenges during the installation process.
Quality Assurance & Compliance : Ensure all installations meet state and federal guidelines. Conduct inspections and ensure all testing is completed prior to commissioning.
Health & Safety : Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols across all project sites. Conduct safety meetings and ensure that all team members are properly trained in site-specific safety practices.

Qualifications
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred). Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, OSHA 30) are a plus.
Experience : Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction project management, preferably in underground utility installation. Experience with bidding, estimating, and managing construction projects across multiple locations.
Skills : Strong understanding of underground utility installation processes, trenching, pipe laying, and backfilling. Proficiency in project management and estimating software (e.g., MS Project, Procore, AutoCAD, or similar). Excellent communication, leadership, and team coordination abilities.
Working Conditions
Relocation : Willingness to relocate to project sites across Mississippi.
Frequent travel and extended stays at project locations.
