Fitness Instructor Job Description
GENERAL FUNCTION
Under direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, Fitness Instructors provide instruction, monitor and educate participants on fitness and safety, and maintains a safe and positive atmosphere for class participants.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBLITIES
Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time, provides adequate warm-up, exercise, stretching and cool down
Instructs participants on effective workout methods, explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises, and teaches methods to strengthen specific muscles
Prepares appropriate equipment, music and handouts for each class
Assists participants, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience
Ensure safety standards are met and department and facility policies are followed
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age
Current Red Cross CPR and First Aid certification preferred
Certified Instructor, specialty/certification preferred
SKILLS
Knowledge of teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, cueing technique, and rhythm. Ability to be professional and motivate class participants. Ability to cooperate and work well with other staff members and the public.
PHYSICAL SKILLS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, kneel, reach and manipulate objects, talk and/or hear. This position requires mobility. Duties require attentiveness to visual and audible cues for recognition and identification of participants that may need modification of exercises. This position requires the employee to have a high degree of energy, and be able to project his/her voice so that participants can hear instructions.
HOURS AND COMPENSATION
This position can range from 1.25 - 8 hours per week. The starting hourly rate is $17.87. Applications may be completed online at the Village of Grafton website; https://villageofgraftonwi.gov.
