Position Summary :
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Architectural Draftsman to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will contribute to the preparation of accurate and high-quality construction drawings, plans, and schematics for a variety of projects primarily focused on residential single family beach houses, but from time to time work may include some commercial, and environmental work as well.
Key Responsibilities :
Prepare detailed architectural and engineering drawings using AutoCAD software.
Collaborate with architects, designers, engineers and project managers to develop plans that meet client specifications.
Assist in creating permit applications and ensuring compliance with local codes and regulations, including environmental and Fire Island-specific requirements.
Modify and update existing designs to accommodate client revisions or site conditions.
Perform field measurements and translate findings into accurate drawings.
Maintain organized records of drawings and project documentation.
Support the team in design and planning phases, offering innovative solutions when needed.
Qualifications :
5 years of experience as a draftsman in a design, architectural or engineering firm.
A strong understanding of architectural and engineering principles.
Familiarity with zoning and building codes and permitting processes.
Proficiency in AutoCAD software.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
A bachelors degree or certification in drafting, architecture, or a related field is preferred.
Preferred Skills :
Experience working on projects in coastal or environmentally sensitive areas, particularly Fire Island.
Experience working with houses on pilings is a big plus, make sure to note this in your application if you’ve done it before.
Familiarity with local zoning codes, permitting processes, and environmental considerations - Town of Islip, Town of Brookhaven, Village of Ocean Beach is a plus.
