ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for assessing, organizing, coordinating, implementing, instructing, and evaluating specific outpatient educational and rehabilitation programs related to cardiac and Pulmonary rehab. Assist with marketing efforts to ensure continued business growth across service lines with key physicians, post-acute providers, payers and community organizations including community events such as health fairs.


INTERACTION

Primarily Interacts with administration, physicians, employees, clinical and non-clinical departments, patients, and visitors.


PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  • Collect patient data for quality reporting and outcome measurements.
  • Orient new participants to equipment, exercises, and techniques utilized in the rehab program.
  • Responsible for the initial cardiopulmonary assessment of participant, and assist in the development of the individualized treatment plan with appropriate staff members and disciplines.
  • Supervise exercise sessions and provide ongoing monitoring of participant’s blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and perceived exertion.
  • Assess for any inappropriate response to exercise. Make referrals and/or recommendations to the participant, other staff, and medical director.
  • Immediately report any significant participant conditions (i.e. oxygen saturations below the prescribed threshold, change in mental status, dysrhythmias, abnormal blood pressure, etc) to the supervising physician.
  • Initiates BLS/ACLS and/or emergency care according to hospital policy.
  • Document initial assessment, daily participation information, and discharge assessment and summary.
  • Lead participation education sessions in areas of tobacco cessation, medication, nutrition, oxygen usage and safety, coping techniques, and depression identification.
  • Recommend appropriate intervention and need for further treatment of referral in participant’s care.
  • Initiate referral for home pulmonary equipment as appropriate.
  • Communicate with providers or staff members to report participant progress and advise team of future plans.
  • Maintain current cardiopulmonary rehabilitation practices and education through journals, in-services, and conferences.
  • Consult with physicians in the event of adverse reactions.
  • Maintain patient charts which contains pertinent identification and therapy information.
  • Assist with marketing initiatives to promote program and facilitate program growth.
  • Ensure adequate stock of supply within department.

  • Provide exemplary customer service.
  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA.
  • Cooperate with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives and maintain good employee relations, inter-departmental objectives and infection control policies.
  • Cordially demonstrate timeliness and professionalism in appearance, communications, and actions during all interactions and with all individuals and entities.
  • Solve practical problems, dealing with a variety of issues, and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.



Requirements

ABILITY TO USE EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, MATERIALS, MACHINES: Computer, telephone, facsimile machine, copier, scanner, printer, calculator and other standard office equipment. Familiarity with rehab equipment.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Education:

  • High school or GED equivalent required
  • Healthcare licensure -Respiratory Therapist- RRT or CRT 
  • Other education requirement: BLS and ACLS

Experience:

  • One year experience of cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation experience preferred.
  • One year medical office or other healthcare experience required.

Personal Job-Related Skills / Abilities:

  • Must be committed to quality and patient safety at all times.
  • Excellent command / highly proficient in spoken and written English; bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, electronic medical documentation, and email.
  • Must be effective at adjusting to change, prioritizing duties, handling stress and effectively communicating face-to-face and/or over the telephone.
  • Must be able to work independently, and flexibly, and as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Must be able to manage several interruptions throughout the shift.

  • Must have strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work under pressure while interacting in a helpful, courteous manner with a high degree of patient contact.
