What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver position at Grain Valley R-5 School District?
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is primarily responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest advantage of the district’s curriculum and extra-curricular activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drives a school bus along designated route; picks up and discharges students in accordance with time schedules; observes legal and defensive driving practices; assures compliance with applicable traffic and student transportation laws, codes and regulations
- Maintains order and discipline among passengers on the bus in accordance with district policies related to disciplining students; prepares related reports as necessary.
- Determines appropriate action in emergency situations according to established guidelines; administers First Aid to passengers as needed.
- Operates, cares for, and cleans areas and equipment used in the transportation of students. Keeps assigned bus clean. Sweeps daily and empties trash as needed.
- Conducts required daily safety inspections of buses; inspects the interior and exterior of buses to assure safe operational condition; reports mechanical malfunctions or other problems as required; prepares and maintains related records
- Utilizes two-way radios for bus to bus and bus to base communications. Reports all accidents, injuries and delays to the dispatcher or director promptly. Completes required reports.
- Exercises responsible leadership when on school district activity trips. Meets scheduled departure times and prepares related logs and reports.
- Attends monthly in-service training to improve skills, attitudes and knowledge of school bus driving and student management.
- Demonstrate effective human relations and communications skills.
- Submits to all required D.O.T. random drug and alcohol screenings.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Hold valid Missouri Driver’s License
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Complete the requirements to obtain a Missouri Class-B CDL with Passenger & School Bus Endorsements.
- Must have a clean driving record with no more than 1 moving violation within the previous 36 months.
- Successfully complete the training program provided by the district.
- Meet the standards of the Missouri School Bus Driver Physical exam, which is administered annually.
- Successful completion of D.O.T. Pre-employment Drug Screening.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- 9 month position
- Reports to Director of Transportation
- Non-exempt
