What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Coordinator position at Grain Valley R-5 School District?
The coordinator will manage the process of special education referrals and evaluations; develop appropriate programming for students from the IEP process through placement; and will ensure provision of a free appropriate public education (FAPE) to all students who qualify for special education. The coordinator ensures compliance with federal, state and local requirements.
Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field, preferred
- Missouri Special Education Certification
- Strong knowledge of special education law and compliance
- Ability to problem solve and make data-driven decisions
- Ability to build positive working relationships with students, parents, and staff
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to handle information with utmost confidentiality
Essential Duties:
- Supervise and coordinate all aspects of special education process
- Resource for all educators related to struggling learners
- LEA Representative in IEP meetings or other situations where appropriate
- Liaison between the district and outside agencies for the purpose of FAPE and compliance
- Collect ongoing data for special education programming operations
- Advise and Assist the Director of Special Services
- Stay abreast of current laws, policies, and procedures for special education
