Job Summary
The Dean of Campus Life and Holistic Development serves as a pivotal leader in fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging campus environment. This position oversees a comprehensive portfolio that includes Campus Activities, Student Engagement, The Favrot Student Union and its Board, Clubs and Organizations, the Student Government Association, Student Transportation, the Graduate Student Association, and initiatives for a Hunger Free Campus and Basic Needs support. The Dean will report directly to the Vice President of Student Affairs and will work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to enhance student experiences, satisfaction, and retention while promoting holistic development.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership and Vision:
- Provide strategic direction for campus life programs that promote student engagement, leadership development, and a sense of community.
- Develop and implement policies and initiatives that support the holistic development of all students.
- Oversee the planning and execution of campus activities, events, and programs that enhance student engagement and promote a vibrant campus culture. - Collaborate with student organizations to foster inclusive programming that meets the diverse interests of the student body.
- Manage the operations and programming of The Favrot Student Union, ensuring it serves as a central hub for student engagement and community building.
- Guide the Favrot Student Union Board in their initiatives, providing support and resources for successful programming.
- Support the development and sustainability of student clubs and organizations, ensuring they align with the institution’s mission and values.
- Facilitate training and resources for club leaders to enhance leadership skills and organizational effectiveness.
- Collaborate with the Student Government Association to empower student leadership and advocate for student needs and interests.
- Provide guidance and support for SGA initiatives, ensuring effective communication between students and administration.
- Oversee student transportation services, ensuring accessibility and reliability for all students.
- Develop programs that promote sustainable transportation options on campus.
- Support the Graduate Student Association in addressing the unique needs and interests of graduate students.
- Facilitate opportunities for graduate student engagement and leadership development.
- Lead initiatives aimed at addressing food insecurity and basic needs among students.
- Collaborate with community partners and campus resources to promote a Hunger Free Campus and provide essential support services.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance student satisfaction and retention through engaging programs and services that meet student needs.
- Utilize data and feedback to assess student experiences and continuously improve campus life initiatives.
- Build effective partnerships with various offices, including Student Senate, Faculty Senate, University College, New Student Programs, Athletics, Alumni, Admissions, Recruitment, and Financial Aid.
- Collaborate to serve non-traditional, off-campus, and veteran students, ensuring their unique needs are met and that they feel integrated into the campus community.
- Work closely with the Dean of Students to align efforts in student support, engagement, and programming.
- Coordinate initiatives that enhance the overall student experience and address the diverse needs of the student population.
- Research and develop best practices for campus life and student engagement initiatives.
- Implement these practices to enhance program effectiveness and improve the overall student experience.
- Analyze data related to student engagement, satisfaction, and retention to inform decision-making and program enhancements.
- Make ongoing, data-driven recommendations for improvement based on assessment results and student feedback.
- Serve in a leadership role to foster collaboration across departments and divisions, promoting a cohesive approach to student services and engagement..
- Work closely with academic, residential, inter-division, and administrative departments to create a holistic approach to student development and support.
- Regularly report to the Vice President of Student Affairs on the status of campus life initiatives, student engagement metrics, and emerging student needs.
- Collaborate with the VP of Student Affairs to align campus life strategies with the broader goals of the division.
Qualifications
- A master’s degree in a relevant field is required
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in student services, higher education administration, or a related discipline
- Demonstrated strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional communication and conflict resolution abilities
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups of students and staff
